Message: Wondering what damage can happin if the fluid is low in the trany.
this is why:
Took my dakota into john hine (dodge dealer in town) Had them do a flush and fluid change over to amsoil syn ATF. They used 5 gallons of ATF fluid. Then a week or so later checked fluid and it didnt even show up on the dip stick.????
Added a quart and raised it right between the holes at the cold end of the stick. Understand that to much can be worse than low.
trany now makes a noise when it is down shifting. Any expert opionion on this be helpful. Real pissed with this dealership at the moment. Also, had to return cause they charged me for fluid that i supplied.

Message: no there is no leaking out of the truck that is for sure. wondering who much extra trany fluid they shorted me for a VERY PRICY job. Five gallons is WAY more then they needed to do the job and the "used it all". I have half a quart left and thinking I am going to have to get more to get the fluid levels up to what they should be.

Message: Where do you live?
The reason I ask this question is this. I had a 96 Ram sport. Never had a problem with fluid level in the tranny, untill I moved to Las Vegas. Then I would check my fluid, same way I always did, Engine hot, level ground, tranny in netrual, and one day it would be okay. A week later it would be low. I would service it, and get it right, and then a few weeks later it would be high. Never could figure it out. The only thing I could come up with, is that it might be the alttiude. Vegas is 2000 ft. Then again, maybe I am seeing things. I don't know, It drove me nuts. I no longer have that problem because I now drive a 02 4.7 5 speed Dakota.
And before anyone calls me nuts, I am not suggesting that this is the problem, just making an observation.
I still don't believe it myself.

Message: I have a 5 Auto in live in san diego. The fluid level is alway the same. When its hot it rises and when it cold it drops. my concern is if while i was driving with ith fluid levels low did it damage anything in the trany. the fluid is now at the recommended level. (Little lower than recommended) I was wondering what kind of damage should I be worried about? There is now a noise that happens anytime I go from Park to drive or Neutral to drive?? thanks for any help.

Message: That noise, is it coming from the trans, or just under the truck? Could it be a u-joint, going bad?

Message: it is diffently the tranny. It sounds like a crinky noise more like a squeky door not like metal to metal. I'll drive to a dealer ship monday to see if someone there might know what they get paid to know. Haaa
Not to very worried yet since there is no proformance loss or any grinding noises. Tranny shifts better than ever and not having that cold morning reving RPM issue that i did before the Synthtic switch. (also hasnt been very cold yet)
