Has anybody had any noticeble gains from removing the rubber flap and the snorkel on the air box of a 99 5.2? I was thinking of getting an air intake but can't really afford it right now, so I thought that if I removed the snorkel and then the flap that should allow cooler air right into the front of the box. I am really looking for a few extra mpg's, not really worried about the gain in HP, but it would be a nice plus. I am also thinking about running some ABS from the air box up to the opening by the radiator. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

It would certainly be an improvement. The stock snorkel is pretty small. So making that bigge with a better/colder air track will make some improvement. How much is hard to say. Go fo it.
