Subject: No oil Press. (Check Gauge Light) IP: Logged
Message: Occaisionaly my truck, 97 5.2 4x4, will lose all oil pressure causing the check gauge light to come on, if i press on the gas, it rises back up. It only has happened when idling after being driven for a while,(engine warm). I was cleaning my TB the other day, and like many others noticed that oil and sludge build up deep inside the intake (barrel) area. I believe that is part of a plenum, or belly gasket situation. My "?" is would that have an effect on oil pressure in my case, or what else would cause this?? Also, it has happened after I had oil changes done, and i check the level, and there is plenty there. Thanks for your help.

Message: I'd start looking for the problem by first
removing the oil sending unit and installing a
oil guage and reading the oil pressure while
engine is running at different speeds. If all
looks ok, change the sending unit and drive and
see if problem went away.
Sending unit is easy to replace and cheap.
Good luck and let us know what you fine...

Message: Blown belly gasket on the intake. Common problem. Look down yout TB. If you have oily residue in them and/or a puddle of oil on the bottom, then you have a blown gasket.

Message: Im gonna try the sending unit. isnt it located near the distributor cap and rotor?? And also, just because the sending unit would tell me I have no oil pressure, would that mean the engine actually isnt getting any oil to the top end, or is the sending unit only for telling my dash gauge my oil pressure?? understand my question.........

Message: Sending unit is just for running the dash gauge. They have been known to fail.
