Message: Hey guys, just wanted to get your opinions on the hypertech III for the dodge V8's. I just bought one for my '99 durango along with a Volant CAI. I'm planning on getting the hypertech 160 powerstat. please correct me if im wrong, but wouldn't a 160 help prevent detontation better than a 180 would? i bought the programmer hoping to get more power out of the 318. it's stuggling for more air. getting the exhaust on in a week too. thanks for the help guys.

Message: The Hypertech wont cause detonation. I have the 360 and programed mine using 93 octane. I also put in a 180 t-stat. Dont go with the 160. Alot of bad press on this forum using such a cold "stat". You will find that the 180 will work great. Definately get the truck to breath better with the CAI and a good exhaust. You will be quite happy when its all working together.

Message: I had a pp3 for my 98 318 dakota and loved it. I wrecked my truck, so I sold the pp3. If you're not planning on extensive engine mods like a cam, high performance heads, or other internal mods, I'd say the pp3 is the way to go. I like the fact that you can return the computer to the original settings for better mileage in only 5 minutes. If you live in a state with no emmissins testing, you can cut the catalytic converter off, but you'll have to use an o2 sensor simulator in place of the rear o2 sensor. This basically sends the same signal the o2 sensor would if the cat was still there, "fooling" the computer into thinking the cat is still there. They cost about sixty bucks and are made by Jaspers Electronics. It simply plugs into the harness where the sensor would normally go. It takes about 5 minutes to install - I just plugged mine in and zip tied it to the frame. After 2 years it never gave me any trouble. You could also port your throttle body with a dremel tool - there are instructions somewhere in this forum.

Message: Stay away from the 160 t-stat it sends a signal to the computer
that the truck is running too cold and retards the timing....

Message: One word NO. I can show you dyno sheets that the pp3 killed about 5 hp from stock programming on a 5.9 R/T. If your engine has little mods its ok but anything other than intake and t-stat the anwser is easy,, NO

Message: Thanks guys. I only plan on doing simple bolt on's and the like. nothing too drastic. it's only a durango. althoughhhhhhh.............it would be pretty nice to pull up to a camaro or somethin and give him a run for his money. and about the TB thing, what's a good one aftermarket. i was looking at the billet stage 1 from hughes engines. if i did this mod, with the intake and exhaust, would it effect the pp3 any? California suck too by the way, we only get 91 or 92 octane here. my dad ran Av. gas, 103 octane lo led in his truck once. good stuff that is. anyways, im done bs'ing. thanks again gents.

Message: Yes, The pp3 is for cold intake and t-stat and cat back mods only. Any other mods will defeat the pp3. Call hypertech and ask them yourself. I had the aboved mentioned plus headers and lost HP with the pp3. Called Hypertech and they blammed it on the headers. BS, they gave me my money back when I told them I had dyno sheets to prove it?

Message: I have a 98 5.2 with 3" all the way w/gibson single. The truck will soon have headers,1.6rockers, and 50mm tbody. I was going to buy the hypertech but it sound like I wont now. With these mods who should I go to? I have read that you can send it out to get a flash,is that the way to go?? And if so who do you send it out to and how long and how much dose it take/cost?

Message: a buddy of mine sent his out to Kenne Bell i think, and he told them what all he did and they programmed his factory one to those specs. cost him about 400 bucks i think. i wasn't going to do anything major to my durango, just wanted to help it breath a little better. if you send it out to get a flash, i recommend you buy another computer from a pick a part if you can find one, that way you can still use your truck. my buddy did that cause his was out for about a month.
