Message: every time I have my oil changed - by the dealer - I ask them to check my ball-joints. I figure they will hopefully find any trouble before it becomes tragic -even though I also check them myself in between - but, better yet, it is documented in the computer and on the slips I get a copy of.I also ask them to check ALL front end components and brakes. the truck is under warranty, so there is no charge. I just tell them that I hear a noise in the front end once in awhile - which is the truth.

Message: what sort of noises do the ball joints make when they start to go bad? My '00 Dak is making some creaking noises, from the drivers side front only, and I'm wondering if it's the ball joint or the torsion arm adjustment bracket.

Message: That's much more likely to be the noise you hear. With worn ball joints, you might not hear anything; just watch for unusual front tire wear, loose feeling to steering.

Message: Just an update to my original post. I picked-up my truck today from the dealer. They replaced the front and rear bushings again at 25,000 miles, fist time at 12,000. They also performed a check of the front end components and found everything to be sound. So I guess I am good til' the next oil-change. I will ask again as usual, for them to check the front end components.
Also: the normal - dealer provides the oil (synthetic)- oil-change is $46, but bringing my own oil and filter was $9 labor. The cost of my syn was $44. So, for $7 extra, I got the oil I prefer. Not a lot of cost for a percieved superior oil, and certainly a much better filter.
