 Subject: Death Flash

I am looking into buying a CC or RC 5.2L Dak and the year some where around 97-2000 model.
I keep hearing about this death flash computer problem.
How will I know if this truck has it or what symptoms or any info on how or why this happens?

You'll only be able to notice it if you drive one truck that has had the dreaded 'death flash' and one that has not. I mainly hurts off the line performance by dialing back the initial timing advance to reduce engine ping under load/hot conditions/poor quality fuel/etc.

I have the "death flash" on my 00 CC and hate it. I read somewhere that there was another flash that would undo what the "death flash" did. Anyone know if this is true and if so, what do I ask for when I hit my dealership? I am sure they will probaby look at me funny when I ask them for the death flash fix.

From what I've heard, the dealership won't/can't undo that flash. One option would be to pull your PCM and send it off for a Kenne Bell performance flash.

Check the KRC website for a fix with regards to initial timing. I've done it, it seems to work and only took about an hour.

Ok, maybe I am dense, but what do they mean when they say "slot the holes 3/8" and leave enough for the bolts to hold onto"? I haven't looked at my truck yet, but I think I can find the sensor, just kind of confused on the directions. Anybody done this, or can enlighten me?
