Subject: Death Flash IP: Logged
Message: I am looking into buying a CC or RC 5.2L Dak and the year some where around 97-2000 model.
I keep hearing about this death flash computer problem.
How will I know if this truck has it or what symptoms or any info on how or why this happens?
Greatly Appreciated!

Message: You'll only be able to notice it if you drive one truck that has had the dreaded 'death flash' and one that has not. I mainly hurts off the line performance by dialing back the initial timing advance to reduce engine ping under load/hot conditions/poor quality fuel/etc.
Hope that helped.

Message: I have the "death flash" on my 00 CC and hate it. I read somewhere that there was another flash that would undo what the "death flash" did. Anyone know if this is true and if so, what do I ask for when I hit my dealership? I am sure they will probaby look at me funny when I ask them for the death flash fix.

Message: From what I've heard, the dealership won't/can't undo that flash. One option would be to pull your PCM and send it off for a Kenne Bell performance flash.

Message: Check the KRC website for a fix with regards to initial timing. I've done it, it seems to work and only took about an hour.

Message: Ok, maybe I am dense, but what do they mean when they say "slot the holes 3/8" and leave enough for the bolts to hold onto"? I haven't looked at my truck yet, but I think I can find the sensor, just kind of confused on the directions. Anybody done this, or can enlighten me?
