Message: Just wondering how many of you guys have a V8, either a 5.2, 5.9, or a 4.7(yeah right) with at least 100,000 miles on it? What problems have you had so far and what major stuff have you had to do? By major, I mean anything besides normal maintanace. I have a 93 318 with 109,650. So far, I have had to replace the water pump, a couple coolant temp sensores, an auto belt tensioner and thats it. Those are just the things I have had to replace, not what needs replacing. I'm still riding on the stock shocks!

Message: Durango 5.9 200000mi (Sever buisness driving, Should be flying) Most of that is pulling a trailer. Never did anything but top the fluids and change the oil. Put K&N on it. I think im going to trade it for a New Ram or Durango R/T today. Brakes were done twice onces at 100000 and once at 200300 mi. They have really long lasting brakes. To bad the rotors are crap mine warped at around 150000. But from what i hear from some people im really lucky.
Dakota 4.7 5 speed 3.92 rear end 4x4.
15000mi on it. So far nothing but oil and filters. Seems very sound.
Pontiac Grand Prix GTP supercharged.
12000Mi Very fast but creeks and rattles. Does not have the quality the dodges have. Will be getting rid of it.
I only use castrol syntec..

Message: My 93 4X4 had 245,000+ on it when I burnt a valve. Other than that, a water pump and fuel pump were the only items I had to replace. I did have to replace the seals in the tranny and transfer case once.

Message: I know its not "high" mileage but my 98 5.2 has 46,000 miles with no problems. I changed the plugs, tranny fluid/filter, and front brakes at 30,000 (didn't need brakes but oh well). Still runs like a champ. I'm about to change the cap and rotor this weekend I'm sure that after 46,000 miles it's ready to come out! I'll also change the wires, belt, and plugs.
The trick is not to neglet the important things. Good oil and filter every 3000 miles. Tranny fluid and filter every 30,000 (or less if you tow).Run good, brand name fuel. And keep your tires rotated and balanced (I'm still rolling on the stock 31" Wrangler RT/S)
And don't forget to wash and wax as often as you can, hey it's gotta look good!

Message: my 93 5.2 w auto. i bought it with 58k miles and it looked like there was a new tensioner on it. I now have 95k miles and had tranny rebuilt(still seems funny)water pump (don't know what kind) fan clutch and I don't think any of the TSB's have been incorporated.
mostly stock put dual exhaust on last year.

If any of this has benn on for a long time BE PREPARED. i got p....d real fast it was a chor getting to the pump and getting the bolts loose.
now that it is back together the bearing on the water pump squeaks but it doesn't leak and it's pumping waster and i am not going through t hat agian until it goes bad.
I am haveing thermostat problems. the metal breaks and stay open. this is the second one and i got it at autozone. what is a good mfg for this?

Message: Removed fan clutch by using large adjustable wrench.
if you don't have a maint book you should get a factory book($59.00) from alltech and if not that then try Hayes books. it's not as good as mfgr but it still does the job.

Message: i just recently picked up a 94 model sport with 5.2 and a518. so far it looks like im gonna have to fix the vss, which also caused a small leak.
the rear tranny mount that was destroyed by the previously said leak, and the egr and evap solenoids.as well as the usual stuff(belts, hoses, coolant flush, tune-up,etc.)
robert shaw thermos...50/50 chance.
i installed one in my last coolant flush on my 80 3/4 ton. it died after two months.however, my father put one in his 80 model 1/2 ton(herb McCandless 360 vroom vroom) two years ago when swapping to an aluminum radiator.
in my book , theres no difference between a shaw and any other good quality thermostat.
are there any good tire companies besides michelin anymore?

Message: Yeah, goodyear still has a decent tire, the goodyears I had trouble with were the a/t truck tires,, real loud on the road and they seemed to wear real fast. had them balanced and alligned. but i still only got 35k on a supposed 65k tire. michelins were good.. now running gd yr wranglers these are good for now.. i have 10k on em and they seem to be good rubber.. they don't hook up real well from a dead stop, but they are235/75r-15's which explains the hook up probs.. too narrow. well thats my opinion.. gotta go, final exams on tues. study study study..

Message: i have a '94 with the 5.2. i just bought it a few months ago, so i haven't had a lot of problems with it, but i did have to replace an injector. ($100 a piece, damn!!) and when i pulled it out, all this sludge crap came with it, that explains why it wasn't working anymore, eh? i'm just wondering where it came from. might explain the fact that it starts hard still sometimes. any ideas? it's a plastic tank, so it'd have to be the pump or lines basically, i don't know. well, it runs, and i did pull a trailer with a car on it through hills and such while only running on 7 cyls. so that was cool, yeah dak!

Message: I own a '91 318. I,ve had it for about 7 months now. It's got 193000 kliks on it. So far I had to replace 1 coolant temp. And in June a faulty pick-up coil. What a nightmare that was to find.If your 318 has intermitent stall, no codes, and starts right back up after it does stall check your pick-up coil(distributor for corrosion). Other than that no complaints. lottsa power, great little truck.

Message: I just bought a 94 Dak and i love it.It just turned to 162,000 kms , i had to replace the serpintine belt and a new battery. It was second hand and the previous owner used it for a tow vehicle i am not sure what he towed with it but he seemed to look after it. I would greatly apprecitate any information on what kind of exhaust system to get for good sound and reliability and performance, i have the 318 engine with the 5-speed. I also have a 1968 Plum Crazy Purple Barracuda for sale u can email me at purplebarracuda@yahoo.com for any information and pics. Thanks alot.

Message: Not a Dak story but still MOPAR.....I bought a 76 PLY Volare Slant 6 in '78, it had bout 50k, standard 3 spd with overdrive, elect buckets, and t-tops, super clean car, wife and I drove the thing till '81 and gave it to my daughter (100k), she drove it till her younger brother needed one, so he got the hand me down ( I think bout 140,000), he drove it for 3 years (200k).
He finally wanted something of his own he could afford and I got the damn thing back LOL.
I put a for sale sign on it and sold it to neighbor down the street, he wanted it for his son in hi school, it sounds like a damn story all over again.... but this is all true.
The Volare went thru that boy and then his younger daughter in hi school.
The only thing done major was I changed the clutch after bout 150k, the alternator, water pump and starter were original.
The last time I saw the Volare was bout '95 and had over 300k and was still running just fine......damn thing wouldn't die!!!!!
Just my $.04.7 worth ......
Happy New Year to ALL...Keep the shiny side up.

Had tranny go out at 3K due to driveline vibration. No problems since. Replaced water pump at 104K when I upgraded my heads and cam. No wear marks on inside of motor while I had the heads/cam out. Looked better inside than a 60K mile '00 R/T at same time. Only difference was I used synthetics, and he used dino oils.
