Subject: Air Filter Ideas IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if anyone has removed the airbox off thier truck and replaced it with the old style open round filter. If you have does it help or hurt it. I was just curious about swapping mine for the old style round filter.....

Message: Yeah it works, I hear it is better and would probably benefit most with some form of ram air hood. If you find a product that fits could you please post the part number.

Message: I will look into it. Its probably the cheapest thing to do to it. You can buy the cheap chrome air filter from a local parts store that fits. So long as the filter isnt too tall. Ram Air hoods are so expensive, the open air filter might do the trick for the buck.

Message: That and they look cool and they flow a lot of air, even if it isn't all that cold.

Message: I did that for my '95 Ram 5.2. A simple 14" open element with a chrome cover, about $20 at pep boys.
When I traded in for the Dakota, I did the same thing. But the intake noise was intolerable. And I didn't really notice any improvement in power or economy.
