Not hard at all. It will drop right in. You will need a 93 spec Ram PCM for a 360 to run it properly. They also changed the flexplate in 96. You need a pre 96 360 flexplate in order to bolt up to your 92 tranny torque converter. Other option is to get a new TQ for 96+ trucks, that will bolt up to the 97 flexplate. Make sure you have the external harmonic balancer as well. You will need to use your 92 intake manifold in order to maintain EGR. You can block off the EGR port on the exhaust, but it will hurt your emissions. No power is gained from bypassing EGR on these trucks. You also will probably need to get bigger injectors. The 360 will be happiest with 21# or 24# units. Stock is 19#.

why not just get an intake from a 92 or 93 360? then you have all the right injectors and stuff.

If you have access to one, then that would be fine. Oftentimes junkyards take a lot of that stuff off the engines, or charge way too much for them. I have seen fuel rails and injectors sold at junkyards for $200 or more. You can get a decent set of used FMS or Accel injectors for $125 on Ebay and others. Also, 92 360 was pre-mag. And in 94 they went to a returnless fuel system, so you would not be able to use the fuel rail from a later truck on a 92-93 Dak.

i have a 97 dodge dakota and the engine is beat,i have an oppertunity to get my hands on a 96 360 engine what do i have to change to run the 360 with out the pcm triguring the light?

I have a 1993 Dakota V8 5.2L
automatic with throttle body. The 2
forward rod bearings wore down and
chewed the crankshaft. We removed the
engine and while searching for one
found a 1996 Dodge Van 2500 automatic
with a 5.9L engine can We just swap
the engines out or are there some
tweaks we need to know about.
