Message: I just bought a 2002(new) 4.7 Dakota, The truck is just what I was looking for. Regular Cab, Short Bed, 5 speed 2WD, and a stripper. No power windows, seats, mirrors, nothing. Just AC and a nice stereo. So I believe this truck is fairly light. My question is this, has anyone taken of of these to the strip, and what did they get it to run? Its gonna be awhile before I can get mine to the strip, because I work fri/sat nights right now. I have read some of the performace mods and plan on trying some, its just new to me, last car I ran, was a 69 Dodge Superbee, so times have changed.

Message: What gears ? If you got the 3.92 it should run pretty even with an RT, but most have 3.55.

Message: Its got a 3.55 rear. I have driven it two days now, and I am pretty pleased with it. It seems to be very close in performance to what a 340 dart/duster was. Maybe my memory has faded, but thats about what it feels like to me.

Message: One of the first things you should do is get the HO manifold and HO cams. The manifold came stock one my O3' and the cams made a great differance in power.

Message: Are the HO cams and manifolds a Mopar part? I didn't see them listed on MP web site.

Message: Many of us with the HO cams sourced them using the Jeep part #s before Dodge offered HO 4.7. Most of the torque gain of the HO package is avilable by just swapping the cams. Stock parts; not Mopar performance.

Message: Good job on your option list-perfect truck. Inexpensive, simple and very quick. Your have bought a cheaper R/T and with the right launch it will beat any 5.9 R/T out there. I just watched a stock (other than exhaust) truck similar to yours run a high 14 in the 1/4. Most R/Ts are deep in the 15 range! I own an 02, but it is the pokey cc 4x4 version and when it comes time to move on I will try to find one similar to yours. Have fun!

Message: Sorry welldone, but you're really going to need the 3.92 rear or some good mods to run with most RTs. Do you know the gear ratios of the trucks you've been watching ?
