if i put a hight flow cat on my kota with a 5.2L, will it make my truck any louder than it is now. Right now it has straight pipes after tha cat and i want it to be a lil louder than it is now. i would just put a pipe in place of it but i don't want to tear up my motor.

Yup, you can put on a carsound cat (Though, it's illegal to remove the stock one unless it's non-functional/not functioning correctly - Federal Law). Also, some good headers will add a nice throaty sound :-)

Is there any way you can tell me how much louder it would be. I want my kota to bellow, it does it a little bit now but only when you first crank it up and turn about 3000 rpm's.

Oh and i ment to ask before, but if i did put a hight flow cat on would it make my check engine light come on. thanks.

If you're putting on a high-flow cat, no, it won't trip the MIL. Hard for me to say how much louder as you're running straight pipes, while I have a Gibson Catback 3" exhaust. I'll tell you this though, and remember that the Gibson isn't very loud compared to straight pipes or Flowmaster. Before, you could barely hear the exhaust, even with the Gibson. With the Positive Performance Headers and the Carsound Cat, my buddies tell me they can hear me pull onto the street about a 1/2 block away and their inside, and this is me doing pretty much idle RPM's. Though, it's still quite compared to what I run into at the drag strip :)

Where did you get your cat from? Is it universal or custom fit? What year is your Dakota? I want to get a high flow cat, but Summit only has one that is listed for models up to 98, I have a 99.

I have a 97 CC 5.2L 2wd. The Carsound Cat was bought from an on-line store which is now defunct (great guy too!). The main web-page for carsound is: http://www.car-sound.com/.

You can also try www.dakota-trucks.net and search the archives. If you post a message there, you'll also probably get some info, as the guy who use to run the web-page I bought mine from is still very active. Not sure if it was universal or custom, but the shop I had install it had no problems, fit right in. The Cat only cost $90.

what do you think made more of a difference, the headers or the cat.

Headers hands-down in every fashion. *BUT* keep in mind that the Cat was in place BEFORE I did the headers. So, some of the benefits from the headers could have been increased due to the less-restrictive Cat. Also, the headers cost a lot more both in parts and in labor (if you're not doing them yourself). It cost me about as much in labor as it did for the headers themselves. Cat only ran about $50 to install (and remember, shops won't remove an existing cat unless it's busted). I also did the headers around the same time I did my M1 intake. The M1 and Headers dropped my 1/4 mile by at least 2 tenths. Headers add the benefit of allowing the engine to cool better, so I don't ever see pinging on 87 octane anymore, where I use to occasionally see pinging on 93 octane under heavy load. The Positive Performance Headers also add a nice throaty rumble to the exhaust. Cat did too, but I don't think it did anywhere near as much.

So, it's going to come down to what you are looking for. If cost is a problem, then go with the Cat. If you're looking for performance and sound, go with the headers.

yeah, money is a problem so i will probably do the cat. I also don't really want headers cause everyone i talk to say that they cause problems ,like getting exhaust leaks quicker for one.

But i can't make up my mind if i want to get a new cat or pull out my cat and get a glasspack and put is place of it.

The carsound will give it some more noise level.. but if you want it to bellow and truly be heard from all sides, put a turn down about 10inches before the rear axle
