You'll be hitting high 15's to low 16's, hitting around 83 mph probably.

A 4.7 is actually a LOT quicker in the 1/4. A 4.7 RC manual can dip into the high 14's stock. A CC R/T would hit low 15's (15.2-15.4). With an auto, I wouldn't expect anything better than a 16.0 with a low 80's mph trap speed.

I have a 97 CC SLT 5.2L Auto with 3.55's. With a Hyptertech PCM and cold air, I was running 15.8's. Those 2 mods easily took off .3-.4 secs (I never did get a run totally stock, but I had run without the hyptertech, posting low 16's). I also have the 3.55 gears. *Might* be possible to dip into the 15's, but I wouldn't expect it from a stock dakota. Get a cold air intake and Mopar PCM, and you should be seeing mid-high 15's easily trapping around 85mph. Best I've posted so far is a 15.42 @ 87? mph (other mods include Gibson Cat back, headers, carsound cat, intake manifold, 50mm TB, and some other little goodies)

My truck came from Canada all the decals are in french etc. I believe Ontario ?? any info would be apreciated.

Dakotas, particularly the 5.2L (not sure about the 3.9), has a tendency to spark knock. There's a TSB out that when a customer complains of spark knock/pinging, to flash the computer with this program. It essentially retards the timing, thus you kill the performance of the truck. Most of the time, running higher octane will resolve the problem, and there are many mods to help prevent spark knock.

dptdak ... Ken's message explains the most common way the computer gets the death flash, i.e. via a TSB by a dealer's service dept. Mine came from the factory (bought new in Feb. 97). I'm pretty sure that it is equivalent to the computer program that Daks in California get. I discovered this a couple of years later when I finally bought a code reader. The sticker on the computer will have a number ending with a couple of letters, in my case "AC" which I've been told means it has the death flash or California version (as opposed to the Federal version). It's been awhile but I think that an "AA" ending means that it's the Federal version. Basically, timing is retarded about 4 degrees from the Fed's version and the air/fuel matrix is not as aggressive as the Fed's version.

You should be running around 15.5-.6 @88-89, my truck is the same as yours except a CC and ran a 15.71@88 when it was stock- 60' was in the low 2.20's 1/8 was in the 10.10@68mph range.

Right now it runs 14.8's@94, 60' in the 2.4 range- spinning, 1/8 is in the 9.7's@74mph- these are on street tires.

I did get a few runs on 26x11.5 ET streets in the 1/8 mile, most were in the low 9.40's@75 w/2.10's in the 60'

M1 2 barrel intake, 52mm Holley TB, Edelbrock headers, 2 1/2" pipe into a flowmaster Y pipe then 3" single no cat, Flowmaster race 2-chamber, MP PCM, electric fan, 14x3 filter, MP springs & retainers, Crane HI-6, 180 t-stat.

Best power gains were from the M1 , headers, PCM, and 14x3 filter.

i have a 1997 dodge dakota 4x4 5.2L
lowered and a ton of engine modifications. I have not had it to the track, but i raced a corvette and spanked it, so my friends are thinking i am in a 13.?? 1/4 mile time.

i know you guys are talking late model but i have a 93 dak with headers and msd box with 3.55 gears i made my first and only pass last friday and ran a 15.04@90mgh thats with a full tank of gas and the tailgate up.should run 14.80s with less gas and the gate down.

i have no idea what my truck runs but i can tell you what i have done to it. its a 99 dakota r/t w/ programmer, gibson headers, 2 super 40 serious flowmaster mufflers, 3 inch duel exhaust from its own header, little bigger cam, and the super charger. but its a cc. anyone knows what i should get for 1/4 or 1/8 plz tell me.

i went back to the track last night and just drop the gate went a 14.97 and the funny thing thats with the stock air cleaner and no filter.i ran one more time with the stock filter in it and ran a 14.90@91

Yea when I ran mine last night It ran quicker with the filter in it. I figured it would have been slower. I ran a 16.44@81 last night. The heat was pretty heavy though. The humidity is so bad down here you can hear the cars rust. It ran consistant 16.50s. My best time was with putting it in D and lettin it go. Manually shifting didnt help any. This fall Ill bring it again and by that time Ill have some exhaust work done to it at least.

Yeah, I would definitely say low 14's. The 3.9 gears themselves should give you like .2-.3 I think, comp will give another .2, but not sure on the 1993's. With the crank pulley, maybe .1? And possibly another .1-.2. I would say with all that, absolute minimum gain of .4, with maybe getting .5-.7 second better.

The Gen 2 Dakotas are a LOT lighter than the Gen 3's. When I weighed my '97 CC SLT 5.2 at the track, it came in at 4,380 with me in it. Most of the Gen 2 4x4's don't even weigh that much.


Manually shifting: Well, I've done one evening wiht manual shifting. Shortly after I put on my M-1 intake and Headers, I made, I think, 4 passes. Maybe it was just too humid, not sure, but my overall increase was maybe 1/10th of a second, getting it down to 15.65. Went back couple months later, no other mods, and manually shifted on 3 runs. All of them were in the 15.4 range, best being 15.42 @ 87 with some slippage off the line, but still hooked nicely with a 2.229 60' time, my best 60' to date.

Manual shifting will only help to lower your ETs if you know what the peak rpms for your torque/hp are and how flat your power curve is. Otherwise, you would only be guessing at your optimal shift points ...
