Man where I live there's about 5 Lightnings and most of them are pretty much stock for all I know. Now I have a 2001 R/T CC and I really need to start gettin my mods in the truck instead of in the garage, where they are waiting to be put in all at once. I'm pretty sure I could take mostly all of them when I'm done.

Hey everyone, yeah I really wanna know the outcome of this race too. I have a 2001 R/T 5.9 CC and I'm sick and tired of the lightenings. My dokota is pretty much bone stock except for the K&N FIPK and a dynomax muffler, more mods to come if i'm going to keep it or trade it in for a hemi ram. Laters

Well if you plan on beatin the lightning id say i shouldnt have a problem then since i already have all the things im sure your going to put on already on. only thing im waitin to change on mine is a smaller pulley on the supercharger. have fun with the bill from the garage that should be about 3k.

when i was cruising my r/t around i hated the lightning guys,always coming up and picking on me!you can mod an r/t to beat one of those bastards.my dad wanted my truck so i gave it up and bought an 02 Z28,now i pick on them!i do it for me and everyone else who ever got picked on by one of those cocky ford bastards.i stil cruise the r/t every now and then.i just put an FIPK kit on it for my dad,not sure what that will do.

and to answer the question,head and cam packages can make a big difference.JUST AN EXAMPLE,they offer them for my car that claim 75-100hp gains.

Yeah, but from claims from the manufacturer of all the things I've put on my truck, I should easily be seeing 350hp at the flywheel. I'm probably not even seeing 275hp at the flywheel, and maybe 210 RWHP.

im not talking claims from the manufacturer,im talking dyno proven.one example is TSP(texas speed and performance)they offer head and cam packages,exhaust packages,and engine packages that are dyno proven because they personally dyno tune their products/packages.they dont work with dodge though.all you have to do is find a good performance shop in your area and develop a relationsip with em.
and that is something that the manufacturers of most performance parts do,they tune on the car their product is on to see the most gain they can get/advertise.in the real world you wont see too close to those numbers unless you get it dyno tuned.and if you go to a shop to just have that done youre looking at spending 350-500 bones.there are computer softwares for this kinda thing you can do yourself with a laptop,but you REALLY need to know what you are doing.

new update i just installed the M1 manifold yesterday and drove it today. wow the thing pulls right up to redline so much faster than before and i lost zero low end torque. only thing is it went past 5500rpm today and i donno if thats very good cause i have the stock valvetrain except for the HS 1.7 rockers. is this safe? oh and im gonna race the lightning one week from this sunday as long as he shows up.

go for it,i asked around,to someone who has a 99 L,and he told me the first two years arent as fast as the rest.said they had 360hp compared to 390.and when his was stock he was hitting low 14s.the newer versions are capable of high 13s stock.this is all coming from a guy who seemed to be an SVT freak.so with your mods i would guess you have a good chance.

yea im really excited about this race. i floored it today and it chirped second for the first time. oh and its a '99 lightning that im racing i dont know why i worte '98 cause there was no lightning in '98. actually the dakota r/t was the fastest truck off the showroom floor in 1998.

just to get you a little more excited,i looked around online and couldnt find any Ls in the 13s stock like others were saying.and pick up this months edition of car craft,they did a test of the 04 lightning vs. 04 SRT-10.and with a PROFESSIONAL driver the lightning only pulled a 14.1 to the SRTs 13.4,i believe.and i dont think they are making the Ls slower now,do you?so hell,i bet you are gonna surprise his boost pushing ass!

Luvme that is the comment I have been making all along, the L driver agree with me but some disillusioned people on this site still think the L is much faster than low 14's stock.

yes,and you made a good point.i,like many others, over estimated the Ls performance,just because i have heard so many people spout off 13s as stock numbers.i guess that shows if you really want to know something then go look yourself.LOL.

man,last thurs. night i raced a buddy of mine who has an s-10 with a 355ci.he damn near swung over and clipped me doing his burnout.his response was,"man am i glad you werent creeping forward"i would have killed him!
