Subject: can i take my cat out ?? IP: Logged
Message:
Hey, I have a 99 with the 5.2, I dont know much about how the cat, and O2 sensors work, but i hear people talkin about taking there cat out. I have staights on my truck now but i'm looking for somethin a little louder, I have two O2 sensors from what i can see one by the manifold and one right behind the cat. My question is will it hurt my truck to drop the cat out and insert a pipe in its place? and will my gas mileage drop?
Thanks

Message: If you take out the cat you have to get a kat box from speedtweaks or KRC. They let your computer think the cat is still there. Or you could just get a free-flow kat.

Message: A high quality free-flowing cat won't reduce noise or impact the emmisions reduction, fuel economy or truck performance. Taking the cat out and replacing it with a straight pipe just won't make it run better compaired with a good free-flowing cat. If you're in a DEQ type place [sniffer], and get busted by a cop in a bad mood, the fine for tampering with the emmissions equipment will probably be more than the cat! Good luck!

Message: wait alittle bit before you do this I just took my catout and built my own mileliminator for much cheaper than a cat box. I had a problem with getting mils at first but now that I reduced the resistor size I have driven 40miles with no check engine light.

Message: Hey Conig, can you email me with any specifics about how you biult your own catbox? I am an engineer and would like to give it a try too, but I want to know what you have already, and if it works. Thanks.
