 Subject: 2001 Dakota headunit

Yesterday for no apparent reason my factory headunit stoped working. It is completly dead, except the lights on the bass and treble knobs are flashing. Has anyone ever seen this before or have any idea of might might have happened?

have you checked you fuse in the fuse box, also does you coutesy lights still work when you open the door.

Yes to both, The fuse looks ok, and everything seems to working fine other than the radio.

well i don't know right off, the reason i asked about the lights is because there is a fuse that runs the dome lights, radio and i think something else, but i can't remember. but like i said i don't know right off.
Also, are you planning on getting an aftermarket headunit, cause if you where then now would be a good time to get one.

Probably time for another headunit. I've seen three 2001 units go bad in the past 8 months ( one of them mine )...one time taking the instrument panel gauges with it. Be careful if you get an aftermarket unit, the Infinity system can be somewhat temperamental sometimes. Factory units can be had real cheap on Ebay, especially the cassettes.

what do you call real cheap, i sold mine on there for 170 bucks and that was just the AM/FM CD player.

I got 2 OEM cassette units for about 25 bucks each a couple of months ago.

geez, that's not cheap for a CD player, I can get a prety desent new aftermarket player for that. I had someone in another forum say the cpu may need to be reset. Does this sound right, or do you think i would be waisting my time and money?
