Message: I actually have 2 questions regarding my 01 4.7ltr.
First off it seems to idle low (about 550rpm) is that normal? It shakes at idle. I've noticed if I turn the a/c on the engine will kick the rpm up to about 750rpm and the shaking goes away. So where is the idle suposed to be? And how would I adjust it?
secondly, when coming to a stop the engine will jump up in rpm to about 1000rpm (from about 600rpm) before dropping down to idle of about 550rpm, is that normal? It does it rite before i stop (traveling about 2mph). oh and the tranny is an auto. Thanks

Message: You don't want to change your idle unless your idle has always been low from day one; or to set up a different TB correctly for your engine. What you need to do is remove your TB for a thorough cleaning, including the IAC (idle air control). You can find instructions using the search feature on this site. If that doesn't take care of it, you could have a bad IAC or TPS (throttle position sensor). The shaking at idle is due to low idle, most likely caused by a sticking IAC.

Message: my 00 4.7L 4x4 CC auto (49K on the clock) does the same thing, except for the shaking idle... it sounds a little rough, on cold startup. but as soon as i kick on the a/c, or it warms up. it idles fine (if you call fine around 550-600 rpms) with the air on, it idles around 750, and it feels much better...
the only gripe I have about the low idle, is that I sometimes have to give it gas to creep at a stop light (especially on slight hills) and it wont idle forward fast enough without my imput (parking lot driving)

Message: Well I bought the truck with 24k miles on it. It has always had the idle about 550rpm, coming from an import background I wasn't sure if that was rite or not. A friend of mine told me that the low idle was where it's suposed to be. The shaking I didn't notice until a few days later when my brother mentioned it, and the jumping idle has been there from day one.
daffydak my truck is the same way, at a stoplight if I want to creep forward it won't move unless I give it a little gas, it only does it sometimes though..most of the time it creeps forward with no problem

Message: 550 rpms at idle is normal for the 4.7L engine. They are designed this way for fuel and emissions reasons. I have no problem taking off from idle in first or second gear. Plenty of torque for 550 rpms. For daily driving I use second gear to start in, I only use 1st when a) racing or b) pulling something.
