My 2000 4.7L had a "ticking" sound mainly on acceleration. It wasn't engine knock either. I just about tore into the dash it was driving me crazy. Anyway I too got the run around at the dealer all they would say is "I don't hear anything abnormal". They wouldn't even acknoledge that there was an odd sound. Again, anyway one dude at the dealership looked through the TSB's (technical service bulletin) and found that others had complained of the same thing. All they had to do was pull back some "insulation" or sheathing from a cable or wire that is suposedly attached to the firewall and bamo the noise is gone. I was stoked. That noise was gettying on my nerves. You guys might check into it.

The ticking on the Magnum engines could be the injectors....
I had the same mild ticking sound on my 2001 3.9 and I hear it also on my new 5.9.
No biggy....

my fuel injectors are kinda loud sometimes too...you can put you finger on them and feel them pulse and see if it's the same pulse as the noise...

I have a ticking sound I am going to try the stethescope. I am running auto-rx clean right now cause of it maybe its normal.

5.9L R/T here...I have the same noise. I always assumed it was the hydraulic lifters that make the noise. Self-adjusting hydraulic valve train tends to get a whirry metallic noise with wear and tear...nothing to worry about.

Just got done rebuilding my engine and it has a constant
ticking noise at idle and when accelerating. Thought it was the
lifters because it was one of the only things i didnt replace in
the engine. but pulled the valve covers and the noise was
quiet and it seemed to be pumping oil just fine. No obvious
ticking. Can't rely pinpoint it. Seems like the noise vibrates
through the whole engine. Need some ideas?
