I got a chance to see this race. I guess it all depends on the driver of either but I would hate to say it but the RAM lost. I am pretty good buddys with a guy that owns a Ford dealership and a Dodge dealership. He has 3 SRT 10's currently on the dodge lot and 2 Lightnings on the Ford lot. We wanted to see the other day what was faster. It was a pretty tight race. They only raced to about 60 from a dead stop but the Lightning was barely ahead. I got to drive one of each and the RAM is a hand-full with the 6 speed. The Lightning of course should get the RAM off the line alittle due to starting off in a manual. But the RAM would have pulled ahead in the 1/4 I would say. Maybe I will get to try that out one of these next good days.

Thats funny cause I watched a SRT10 and a Lightning square off at the track last weekend. 3 Runs, SRT won all 3 of them. The two guys went there to prove exactly which was faster, and on the last run they switched trucks to makes sure it wasnt just the driver. The lighting did better good by all standards but the SRT just blew him away.
I don't believe it was fair because the SRT is naturally aspirated. The SRT should be supercharged like the Lightning, similar equipment and run them again. Ford can brag all they want but when you set up your 5.7 like a Lighting with all the bells and whistles you still can blow a Lighting away. Rip that supercharger off that tired old 5.4 and all you have is a pokey ford.

Fastest production truck, period.
As much as I hate to say it the Ford is quick, but not in the same league with the SRT-10. Sounds like fastshell may be a closet Ford fan, lets hope not.
The other thing is that the SRT has a better package than the F150. 6 spd, V10, tire/wheel pkg. The thing just drips of performance. The Lightning is pretty much like any other F150, but with a s-chrgr underhood, little or no image.
What times were these guys posting, Mr.S? V.Curious to know if they were close to the claimed numbers you see in the mags etc.

considering the trap speed on the SRT-10 is about 103-108, i dont think 0-60 even matters.
.. unless those guys were the editors of Car and Driver.

I would love to see them race.
Since the SRT10 has a 8.3 V10 and the Lightning is a supercharged 5.4 V8, then we'll figure the supercharger makes up the the cylinder and displacement difference. Don't worry about the engines not being identical...just put the trucks on the line and see who wins!
I own an '04 Dakota Quad 4.7 & F150.

SRT-10: Mid-Upper 13's
Light: Lower 14's
That SRT just sounds so mean it might have spooked that little blue oval too much.

I make my living by working on fords, thats the only reason that I like them because the break all the time. I am the only person and the dealership with something besides a ford but they always have their vehicles in the shop working on them too. I agree that fords solution to everything is a supercharger. I just want dodge to come out with a dakota with a supercharged Hemi. That would be one bad a$$ truck.

You sound like a lil ricer boy by saying that you should give the SRT10 F/I in order for it to be fair. Since you think it's unfair, can the Lightning have two additional cylinders and the extra displacement? People that are so blinded by brand loyalty make me laugh.

according to an article i read in a truck magazine, Ford is supposed to come out with a more powerful engine in the next year or two. i think it's supposed to match the SRT-10's HP, but it's not going to have as much torque. i'll try to find and post the article. one thing's for sure, the SRT-10 is sure getting under Ford's skin.

There's a comparison article in this months Hot Rod magazine. For pure performance, the Dodge is clearly better - more power, faster, quicker, better suspension and better brakes.
But, the Lightning is pretty close in performance, it is tow rated for 5,000#, load rated to 3800# (GVW), it's lighter, and it's a whole lot cheaper. Now, if it only had four doors........

JC - toss a Triton V10 in there and SC it if you want, it still wont be fast enough. Up until the time that dodge released the SRT10 the only thing we truly had against the lighting was the Dakota R/T. Maybe I'm old school, but I don't think that Supercharged figures count when comparing to NA engines of competitors. I object to being called a ricer boy especially when I own a 69 olds!

They already do. Its the 100th anniversary Harley-Ford F-150. 5.4 Supercharged, 4 door, 20" Wheels, Two color choices: Black or silver/black.
Not quite as fast as the lightning due to extra weight.

Motor trend got a 13.1 out of the SRT-10 ram. They also put 650lbs of dirt in the bed and ran a 13.6. I think the best they ever got out of a lightning is a 13.7.

Just be glad that there even IS a performance war going on between Ford and Dodge.
Sh*t, just 20 years ago everything was ruined my new emmisions and smog pumps out the a$$!
Now they have finally learned how to make power, and pass emmisions!!!
Oh yeah. At the recent races the modded 4.7's were beating Lightnings. They'd also be able beat the SRT as well then. But I'm sure the SRT will have some mods in the future so that will change.

Ford has an N/A V10, it's a 6.8. It is in the new 2 seater Cobra making 600 hp. The word is the Cobra is a go for production (they just finished the hardtop)and the motor will also be used in the new shelby Mustang to spread the cost of making the motor around. New word is it is now being considered for the new Lightning (more cost effective than the GT motor). I believe Autoweek and blue oval news were some of the sites that reported this as well as some car mags. Check it out with a search of the web.

Just out of curiosity if drag races should be equal whats the point?
You should be racing vehicles in your same class, within that it's all fair.
What would be ones excuse when I beat them with my 1.6ltr? It happens quite often. I race at the local tracks and a large majority of the vehicles I race are older muscle cars with V8's...cars with engines 3-4 times the C.U, and twice the cylinders. I don't consider it unfair when they beat me, being that we are all racing in the same "pro class" ...
Being that they both are sport trucks, runing close to the same times, it's all fair. Since they both run 13.0 or slower they would be in the "street class" Throw a few bolt-on's and they should both be in the pro (12.99 faster) class...
