Subject: Performance options for a 99 Dakota 5.2

I just bought myself a 99 Dakota 4x4 with the 5.2 liter V-8 in it, and I was wondering what you guys would suggest to add some horsepower, and possible increase my gas mileage a little. I have about 1000 to spend before the wife will get too annoyed. What have you guys put on your trucks that have given you the most bang for the buck so to speak. Also is there anything that I should stay away from? Thanks in advance

Chris

I bolted on a Volant CAI, Magnaflow 3in exhaust, and used the new Hypertech Programer III all for about 1200 bucks and probably made close to 40-50 extra hp in about a weekend.

I put in a Mopar performance computer for $335 and a 180 deg thermostat for 5 bucks. Don't know how much extra it's putting out, but it feels great and accelerates like never before. Next I'll probably do the Mopar Performance cat back system...I'll let you know how that turns out.

Hey thanks for the replies, how do you think the flomasters holds up in comparison to the mopar performance exhaust and the Magnaflow? I really miss the sound of flomasters...

And how does that Volant CAI compare to the K&N. Last time I got a K&N it was great, but the filter kept getting clogged so I had to clean it very often. I have seen them with a stainless steel screen around the exhausts and those look like they may last a little longer between cleanings with the "cleaner kit" and I could probable rinse most of the debris off.

Lastly how do those programmers compare to the plug in chips. I've heard the argument go both ways, but mostly from advertisers, so we all know how accurate that info is. Have any of you done tests? If so what do ya think?
