Subject: ign. kit ?? IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys : This is my story , i bought an ignition kit (jacobs) it work well, until recently it blew off, dont work anymore. Dont know how. Im in the process of buying a different brand. I hear MSD a lot, any one can recomend a good ignition kit. I will through time be adding more goodies to my truck (t.b/shift kit/nitros/etc) and want to make sure its compatible with wathever comes after. I own a '98 318 5.2 2wd dak. Anybody that can give a good reference? Appreciated thanks

Message: I've been using the MSD6AL for 3 years now with no problems. Had to add the MSD tach adapter otherwise I would get a lot of 'Engine cylinder misfire' codes

Message: I think there are three good brands: Crane, MSD, and Mallory. I don't think one is particularly better than another, but MSD has a big price tag to go with their big name. I'm just not convinced Jacobs is everything they say it is. I used a Crane unit on my Cobra project, which is a 427W with a somewhat radical roller cam, stack EFI, and 10:1 compression.
Make sure you have a rev limiter and the ability to add timing retard. Multiple spark is nice, but unless you swap cams or raise compression, it won't really matter.
