Subject: Carb to MPI IP: Logged
Message: Is it possible to take an intake manifold designed for a carb and convert it for a MPI setup? I am askin this cuz the new edelbrock rpm air gap should be the best performin intake manifold, but it doesnt come in a MPI version, so i was wonderin if i could convert it to MPI. And if it is possible, how hard would it be and would it be worth it?

Message: Yep. In fact, that was exactly what hot rodders were doing before MPI was so common. The weld-in injector bungs can be had from numerous suppliers, as well as the fuel rails. Holley sells the individual components of it's Commander 950 system, but really, get a TBI and other OEM stuff off eBay for cheap, throw it together, get the bungs welded in and plug in an MP computer. Is it worth it? Well, that depends on you. However, you'll certainly have better low rpm vacuum (over the single plane M1) with the 2-plane design. The Air Gap for Magnum was supposed to be on the market by now, but now it has no official E.T.A. for arrival to market. As they said, it was still in the development room. I get the feeling they want to make sure they can show some impressive gains over the M1. I can't wait!!!
