Message: Rear end probs? Oh Lordy, 135K, new pinion, axle and clutch packs. Place I took it too said it was caused by over pressed pinion bearings, caused by faulty castings in the rear end. They said to look out for this every 100K or so. 200K now, axle retaining clip found broken in diff. I love this truck, but the problems I have had with her are things that are expensive, or ones I cannot fix!
Replaced the stock fuel pump with an inline one at 120K, got some custom vented rotors for her @ 90K
(Two brake jobs, including new rotors before hand) never touched the front brakes since! Bad front ball joints (3 times replaced) Water pump goes every 60K (Easy peasy, but don't forget to pick up some spare hose, for that litte bit behind the pump!) Rad replaced @ 75K (No warranty, as top tank split, replaced with metal tank, no probs)
Tranny overheating prbs solved with a cooler, xfer case overheating problems (Black fluid after 20K)
solved with a heat shield over exhaust) front end wander, solved with rancho shocks (Replacing them every 50K though) The list goes on......
Shoulda stuck with Chevy, and ignored the Ford.....The Dodge, she whines, but goes a while until she hurts.... :-)
