I own a 98 5.2 4wd dakota. I love it, but I want more power. What are some products that I would get the most out of for my dollar. Which chip/programmer is the best? What is the best intake? I have the AIR AID on it now. I want to have an all around driver with some power to waste a gas chevy or a ford. What other products are out there that are worth my time. I dont want to supercharge it. I see about 15mpg right now thats with an air aid and a catback magnaflow dual exhaust, is that normal? What Octane do most of you use? Thanks for the time!

It all depends on how much u want to spend , or how far u want to go.. I own the same truck although mine is a 2wd. 318 . i started with some mufflers (dual) 2 3/4 inch . then i bought some pulleys (about $280) just dont change your alternator pulley, your serpentine belt will change in size. then get some headers, just dont get edelbrok ( they warp, get them used at ebay , or just pay about $300) then i got a pcm module u can get that at ebay for sure. after that u can get an electric fan. thats about 15 hp gain , u can get one for about 1oo bucks, the trick part is gettin the factory one off. and last but not least yet the most important piece of all an IGNITION KIT jacobs makes a good one for dakotas, plus they let u pay in payments after u receive the product, this will get you a good amount of performance, by giving more spark to your plugs, and get this about 20 more miles per gallon..the catch they go for about $5oo.. like i said it depends how much u want to spend..me? i aint done yet.. good luck man .

I own a 98 318 (5.2) 4x4 and have very similar mods to CRAZYJ. I only have KnN Filter with Magnaflow muffler. Everything else stock. I WAS getting mid to high 14 mpg's but am now getting right at 16mpg with AC on (hot in FL) and driving with a lead foot. I haven't figured out what I'd get without using AC or without putting my foot to the floor.

And I'm having trouble with Kikef's remarks of "20 MORE miles per gallon". Don't you mean 20mpg? I'd buy a Jacob's ignition yesterday if I could get 20 mpg extra on top of what I get now. He he.

I thought about the pulleys but haven't heard anyone's take on them other than this thread.
