Subject: Power Stearing, WTF! Help! IP: Logged
Message: I have no power assistance at all in my 99 5.2L 4x4. I need some input on what could be wrong. I have checked the fluid and drained/refilled it, and still no power. It happened to go out after I got stuck on the beach on Sunday. I have a 6” lift and 33x12.50 super swamps.
What could it be? The pump? What is all used in power steering system? How much should I expect to pay if I take it to the stealership or is it pretty easy to swamp out myself with basic hand tools.
Thanks for your input!

Message: Since you have fluid, I'd check the pump first; that's the usual culprit. Look in the service manual and it tells you how to check the pressure and what it should be.

Message: Where is the pump located? I know what the Reservoir is, where is the pump?
Will i damage the steering system any further by continuing to drive it?
What about Power Steering gear box? Does that have anything to do with power assistance?
This is so frustrating because i just purchased this truck from a private seller and now my arms are hurting from turning over 33x12.5's!
I have a hayes manual, not to much help in there

Message: the resivoir is attached to the pump.
and i know the steering gear box has something to do with power assist.. i think thats where the actual pressure is applied (i could be wrong) i'm not real keen on steering though....

Message: I wish i could find out, because the pump is not to expensive, but the gear box is over $200 just for the part.
How can i test the pump itself?
