Message: Hey, all. I have a 4.7L manual tranny Dak, and the ECU basically needs rebuilding. Has anyone dealt with repair-and-return services at all? Would you recommend any? Also, if you wouldn't recommend one, where would be a good place to get a replacement ECU at a good price. I know "good price" and "ECU" don't always go together, but let me know. Thanks in advance.

Message: I believe the ECU is covered under the 8 year/80,000 mile emissions system warranty. I could be wrong, but it is definitely worth checking out.

Message: Ted,
Thanks for the post. The model year 2000 Daks were only covered up to 36,000 miles and three years. At the 2001 model year, they went whole hog and did the 7/70. SO, I gets bent over a barrel and no lube, if you know what I mean. I was speaking with a refurbishing service, and in one month, he recieved over 450 Dodge ECUs. Nice, huh?

Message: That's not the warranty being referred to - you could be covered under the Federal emissions warranty; and that is for the longer period of time and miles. Basically it covers anything pollution control related, except for normal wear items like spark plugs. I once got a cracked Y pipe replaced that way at around 70,000; it was covered because it was upstream from the cat. I would think a PCM would be covered by that; you might want to try a different dealer, or specifically mention the "Federal emmissios warranty".

Message: Hmmm. I did not know that. here's what I did. I had a few codes popping up on the truckster, and I took it in to a local mechanic (who I have had good luck with), and he took a look at it. Said he figured the ECU was going south, and ordered a refurb. ECU. The dealer he was ordering through bobbled the order, and I drove the truck back from the mechanic. Found a place in Illinois that refurbishes your ECM for $150, lifetime guarantee, but it's taking a lot more time than I hoped. Weird that a 4-year-old-truck is having ECU problems. OW! My feet!

Message: Check at car-part.com and see if you can find a replacement at reasonable cost. Put in your year, make of truck and engine. I think it will list a "brain box". Match your ECU numbewrs and see what you can find.

Message: The PCM is definitely covered under the Federal emissions warranty for 8yrs/80,000 miles, it's printed clearly in your owners manual.
However, it you're so determined to spend money on another PCM, you can probably get one at your local wrecking yard for cheap. Most of those vehicles aren't in the wrecking yard because their PCM failed. Just remember that you'll need to have your VIN and mileage flashed in the replacement PCM to match your current vehicle. Of course, it'll work without the flash but, the information will be incorrect.

Message: You might not have to worry about the vin # on a 4.7, I ran a boneyard PCM in mine with no problems. Isn't it the Mopar performance PCMs or the 5.2/5.9 that's sensitive to that ?
