Message: I have a 98 4x4 kota with a 5.2L and a friend of mine has a 03 2wd chevy full size with a 5.3L. We were going down a 4 lane hiway and we were side by side going about 60 and on the count of 3 we both floored it and he blew me out of the water. and i was wondering if a 327 was really that powerful.
I am planning on getting some mods on my truck by this summer and i was also wondering if yall could tell me some that are worth buying.

Message: In a nutshell, yes, they are that powerful. In 4x4 trim I feel that they aren't overly impressive but in 2wd, they can be quite the performer.
Let me give you an example. I am good friends with a family who has a 2000 Silverado LS 4x4 with the 5.3. It is an ec sb with a k&n fipk and a gibson exhaust. The father drives that but his oldest son drives a 2000 Dakota club cab with the 4.7L auto. The only mod it has is a k&n fipk. The youngest son drives a bone stock 2003 base Silverado with the 4.8L. The Chevy with the 5.3L literally blows the other two away with ease. if it was 2wd, it would be disgusting. But, the Dakota and the 4.8L Silverado are extremely close when racing. They are so close that the winner is determined by whom has the better reaction time. What I am saying is that if the Dakota wanted to beat this 5.3L (if it was 2wd), I feel he would need much more than your average intake, exhaust and pcm mods.

Message: thanks JC, i wasn't sure if they would really get up and go that good or not. I started to think that my truck was haveing problems. I had heard before that the 5.3L was good for racing but not all that great for towing, so do you think if we hooked up bumper to bumper who do you think would win that pull off.
