Subject: Shelby Dakota 360 IP: Logged
Message: I have a Shelby Dakota with the factory 318. I would like to upgrade to a a non-magnum 360. I have a question regarding this swap. First is what will I need to do for motor mounts. I know one side is identical but can I just use 360 mounts from a full size truck on the other side?

Message: Shelby #1246 here. Yes, all engine and drivetrain matters are addressed by using the parts for the '89 D150, except those issues specific to the Dakota, so the full-sizers mounts will work, or get some flat washers and fill in the gaps on the bolts for that side.

Message: I have a question regarding the Dakoto Shelby. To be honest, I have never owned a Dodge until I found one with 20k miles on it that my wife's bank had for sale. I made them a low-balled offer and they accepted it. Driving on the highway, its great.
My question is this: What's a Shelby model? Mine is a 2000 Dakota Quad Cab with a 360 engine in it. It does have a decal on the bumper and on each side under the door that says Shelby. I've put another 100k on it driving it for work with very little problems, except the now infamous ball joint boogie that I've just read about on this website. Is this truck anything special? (other than I really do like it!)

Message: The Shelby Dakota is the 1989 1/2 standard cab Dakota. A 318 V8 was shoe-horned into an engine bay designed for a V-6. (Some dumbass at Chrysler had convinced the board that V8's were on the way out. All the original big block tooling had already been scrapped, and they were designing with the V6 being the big engine. Sick, huh?). The last Shelby Dodge I'm aware of is the 1999 Durango. It has a supercharged 360. If it were a legit Shelby vehicle, it'd have a Shelby VIN tag in addition to the production tag. Typically, there's also a dash plaque with the number of the vehicle in the series. Not bumper stickers. Shelby is now back with Ford working on what he calls his final project.

Message: As you know the Shelby has an extra crossmember that the engine mounts to. The magnum motor(360) also uses the front mounts. What oilpan extends back far enough to clear the rear crossmember. Please know what you are talking about before answering with a statement that doesn't make sense, as I've already had a bunnch of those who don't realize the Shelby is different from a regular Dakota and thse answers don't work.
