Message: I was looking through the Owner's Manual and saw a few things that I haven't done and didn't know how to do that were recommended. I wanted to see if anyone has done any of this and are they really that helpful to prolong the life of truck.
-Change Rear Axle Fluid
-Change Sump and Cooler Return Filter
-Drain and Refill Transfer Case Fluid (Is this for 4x4 only??)
-Inspect Brake Linings (and possibly bleed brakes?)
-Repack Front Wheel Bearings
By the way, I have a 2001 4.7 Dakota, 2wd, 3.92 gears, RC with about 50000 miles on it and stays in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where there are high, moist, temperatures. I race every now and then and have big plans for the truck in the future so I want to make sure the truck lasts a while (I would like for it to get into the 12's or maybe even 11's). I have kept up all the other routine maintenance. Are these 5 things hard to do or do they take long to do? All information about these is welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Message: Change your rear axle fluid. Don`t forget to add ltd slip additive. Either use Mopars or Amsoils ltd slip additive(I assume its limited slip aka posi). Use either Redline or Amsoil synthetic ,75-90 is plenty ,but 75-140 if you want. I would change it at least every 30k,Dodge posi`s eat clutch packs.
Yes transfer case is for 4x4`s only. Bleed ,repack bearings(I think they are sealed anyway)when you replace brake pads.
Sump and cooler return filter is a new one on me. Is it an auto?
Use this sites search feature, type in the subjects you have listed. Good Luck.

Message: I change the rear end fluid every 35K on my '01 4.7 5-spd 3:92 LSD RC. I change the PCV and spark plugs (Bosch +4 Platinum) every 35K as well. If you haven't changed the plugs yet, be careful with removal, plug/head corrosion may have set in. My brake drums/rotors were turned at 75K, and rear shoes new. Replaced a leaking rear pinion seal. Be sure to get your recall on headlight wiring done, if you have a '01 manual tranny.

Message: I just changed my rear axle fluid for the first time, at 105k mi! The differential was fine, no damage or wear at all. Replaced with AMSOIL and I feel it gets slightly better mileage due to that. I put the slip additive in the rear diff and have no noise, but after a long trip, if I stop, then start driving and turn the wheels sharp, the front does make a little rubbing noise. I need to get down there and add the rest to the front.
