Message: That's a real good question. I have never tried the "Original 40 Series" Muffler but I have owned 3 of the "Delta Flow 40 Series" Mufflers. However my cousin has the original 40 series on his chevy and that thing is LOUD. Way to loud. Especially considering the "Delta Flow 40 Series" on my 4.7L Dodge sounds twice as loud & good than on my 5.7L Chevy but not as loud as his original series. In my opinion you would be happy with the Delta Flow. This muffler sounds sweet. It really makes my truck sound so much tougher than it really is. I would have to compare the exhaust tone to something out of a muscle car. I have owned 5 trucks now and all of my buddies have flowmasters on there trucks and this muffler on my 4.7L sounds nothing like theres. Go with a single in/dual out Delta Flow 40 Series Muffler with Dual 2.5" pipes to Dual 3.5" Tips. That's what I have and it's AWESOME. It does seem to have an annoying resonant sound at crusing speeds though. Meaning it still is too loud for me but is worth it overall considering how great it sounds running through my RPMs.

Message: I have the flowmaster 40 on my truck. I just unbolted the stock muffler and installed the flowmaster. I love it, not that loud at all, in fact i hardly notice it sitting in the cab. The only thing i do not like is there is no cackle. Being an automatic, theres really no hard downshifting. Thats the only thing i do not like. ;(

Message: I've had the Flowmaster 50 series (16"long) before, but prefer the 70 (22" long). The sound out the tailpipe between the two is nearly the same, the main difference is the major cab noise reduction with the 70. I've driven 9 hours straight on Interstate several times; no sweat. Performance/mpg identical between the 50 and 70. '01 4.7 5-spd 3:92 w/2 1/2" duals.

Message: You should try Flowmaster's new muffler, the Super 40. Its a black muffler with the Delta Flow but has a distinct deep tone that sounds awesome! I just put one on and I was very impressed! Got it at Loper's in Phoenix
