The price sounds about $5-7K too high. A year ago, I bought a '99 extenede cab 4x4 5.2L auto with around 50K miles. Factory options included upgraded Infinity stereo/CD player with steering wheel controls, cruise, tilt wheel, ABS, overhead console (with trip computer, outside temperature, sunglass holder, garage remote, etc), power locks/windows, towing package, class IV receiver, HD cooling package, etc. I paid $9,000 for the truck a year ago.

According to kbb.com (Blue Book), today the truck you are considering buying is worth $7030 (private party value, in "good" condition).

According to edmunds.com, the TVM for that truck is only $5898.

Modified trucks are worth less than book value. With those mods, the truck was probably driven pretty hard (and taken off road). Watch out for bad ball joints, which is a typical problem on all Dakotas, not just ones driven off-road. I'm not sure what state you live in, but here in Virginia, ball joints are part of the state inspection, so running the truck through a state inspection might be a nice way to get the truck "checked out" for $15 or less. They'll also check the brakes and other things that could be potential problems or soon need replacement.

Yeah i knew the price sounded a little high. Retail value is $13,000 for it, not including the mods to it.

I am going to definitly check ball joints, trans, rear end... etc....

I was figuring to go there and check it out and if it seems good, drop like 90 $100's bills on the table and say take it or leave it.

I paid 9k back in 2001 for my 98 rc 2wd with 30k miles on it.

I live in FL, how much do you think a stealer ship would charge to have the truck checked out. Meaning have them inspect everything.?

I would be willing to pay for that just for the fact of knowing i wouldn't be buying into a junker.
