Message: Hey, I got couple questions on an '01 Dakota R/T that I'm looking at. First, when accelerating, I hear a soft ticking sound in the engine compartment. At the idle it does not make the noise. Only when accelerating. I've been told that this noise is because some performance upgrades were made to the engine. Do you think this guy is telling me a story? Any ideas what that distinct sound coming from the engine is? Truck runs strong and does not appear to have any mechanical issues. Thanks for listening to my concern. - Scott

Message: I had the slight tick on my 99 Dak R/T and it ran great up until I traded it in with 75,000 miles. I believe it was just valve train noise, and I ran Redline Full synthetic from 20,000 miles on the ODO.

Message: Jeff,
Did your truck not come with the 7/70 powertrain waranty? Mine did. Regardless, paying $800.00 for one $5.00 push rod is stupid!
The last time I paid someone to work on my own engine I paid $1,200.00. That included a new cam, new timing chain/gears, valves springs, head gaskets, intake/exhaust gaskets, spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, shaving the heads .010", matching the intake to the heads, and a complete 3 angle valve job. Either you are lying or you really got ripped off!

Message: He's probably quoting G-tech numbers. Those things are only accurate to within .5sec. Add .5 to 14.6 and you get 15.1sec. That's what mine runs.

Message: Yeah, I'd like to hear more about that 14.6. The thing that makes that number beleivable is that he has an RC. Isnt there like a .3 second difference between CC and RC? Im not sure about this, just asking.
Also, in a way, I'm glad dodge didnt go nuts modding out the R/T's out of the factory. The way I figure it, they would have probably charged more for it, plus depending on how the horepower figures came out, it might be considered a 'performance' vehicle... That would kill for insurance.
The only thing that really pisses me off about my R/T is the transmission. I do think they should have done something with that... Who puts an electronic shift on the column in any sport vehicle. Again, it may have changed the R/T's class if it was different, also, DC would have to put out a specific tranny just for the R/T that we would end up complaining about anyway. Still I wish I had a 5 speed.
