Message: Intake and exhaust are the most obvious ones, you can do so pretty cheap stuff too, like a 180 thermostat, remove the clutch fan, IAT relocation, etc...if its an automatic get a tranny cooler, but I htink more than likely being a 4X4 its proly a manual....

Message: Dan,
Make sure you dont have your brights turned on by mistake. Fog lights turn off then the brights are clicked on. Just a thought.

Message: Hey, Daffy. I have a pair of headers that wouldn't seal on the drivers side. They could be made usable with a little machining or double gaskets. The Gibson's I got after added a good 20 ft lbs of torque. That combined with the free mods and a good air induction will get you in the game for sure. You pay the freight and I'll send you the headers. E-mail me if your interested.

Message: my fog lights do work "with the engine on" LOL DUH!!! i feel so stupid LOL!! there great, i cant wait until it rains so i can really use them :-) i am kind of leary of the rain, my truck wants to break the tires loose enough on dry pavement (3:55 LSD) i might need 4HI to pull out into traffic when its raining LOL!!
i dont know about headers, i dont want to void my extended warranty... theres room for headers in there?!? LOL. it took me 15 mins, to find the spark plugs!!!! and its quite a reach for the oil dipstick as well LOL..
i dont have a techbook on my truck yet, but i will this weekend.....
one more thing; i had a dynomax super turbo put on today. its pretty quiet, will it get any louder?? it has a nice sound, i just want that sound to be louder!
thanks

Message: It will get some louder but not much as the fiberglass roving burns out.
I have a DynoMax Welded Ultra Flo and it is quiet.
I think the three cats are dampning all the sound.

Message: your probably right about the 3 cats. I have heard that the super turbo is supsoed to be almost as quiet as stock :-( if i knew that, i would have bought a flow 40 series!! I can tell it would have a good sound, if only my muffler would let it out :-) its still weird to hear a v8 under the hood!! but its a change for the better :-P
thanks

Message: The headers fit just fine and work great. They won't affect you warranty either, just like the air induction, a bolt on. You'll spend half a day getting them on though.

Message: One of the best mods for the 4.7 is the HO cams. Another good one for your '00 4.7 is the Leach flash for your PCM.

Message: Thanks guys!! BTW, Welcome aboard Kowalski!!
Anyways....
I have another ? About the 4.7. is it normal to hear a whining noise under hard acceleration? It sounds like really quiet gear-to-gear timing. Maybe its just the transfer case.... its not loud, but its audible...
thanks!!

Message: If the whining "noise" is coming from under the hood it is probably the SOHC valve train you're hearing. The chain makes a lot of noise when cold. It'll quiet down a little after the engine warms to normal operating temperatured. But it's always there when you get up the RPMs, like around 3000 and beyond.
However, if the noise you speak of is coming from somewhere else someone else will have to give you some direction.
Personally, I like the sound. It's pretty cool.

Message: its more under the hood, that makes sense about the valve train. i have never owned an OHC engine, so i need some time... it does sound kinda cool, i just wasnt used to it...

Message: The factory exhaust manifolds flow within 2% of headers on a 4.7, and you keep your nice cold weather start-ups. I've got a Flowmaster 70 with 2 1/2" duals. A free-flowing air intake will bring the 4.7 to life when working with the exhaust. I went the "homebrew" route for about $120; go to search under "What is the best intake?". For a great cheap first mod, get a K&N drop-in air filter, and replace the air box inlet snorkel with a Fernco 4"/4" "no-hub" from the plumbing dept. of Home Depot or Lowe's ($7). Remove the rubber flap between the radiator and left headlight for more cool air for the Fernco. Bosch Platinum 4418 +4 platinum plugs will smooth out the 4.7 idle and help mpg slightly.
