Subject: 5.9L Intake Comparison.. IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys. Just got a 01 R/T and plan on doing an Intake pretty soon. It had a Drop in K&N, but I know a full intake will do a lot more then just a crap drop in. What are the best kinds of intakes out there for the 5.9? What are the pros and cons of some of them and are there cold air's for it? Just want a basis on what I should look for. I can get a good deal thru my work on a Air raid system, but I have heard questionable things about them in Dak's. Thanx in advance for all your help guys. Peace out.

Message: The FIPK is the best one, as it also gives you a heat shroud, that alone keeps the intake tube from sucking in hot air from around your exhaust manifolds..plus it also comes wiht a "lifetime" warranty against defects.... now are you also taking about the intake manifold? the M1 is the best one I've heard of, so far.

Message: So where do you get the FIPK? Also i heard from someone on this site on a post that the FIPK breaks easy and the hat had a problem on the one he got.. I dont know the validity of that but just thought i'd ask. So there arent any cold air's for this engine is there? Jus have to check before I invest in another intake.

Message: The FIPK is available from many sources, ebay had a bunch, for cheap, KRC, Summit, Jegs, etc... the FIPK IS a cold air intake, the only 'true' cold air available for the Dakota. Ive had mine for 9 months no problems at all... if it does break, you can get it replaced, K&N offers a million mile warranty.. but its pretty stout, the tube is almost 1/4 inch thick... only problem I could think of would be from overtightening it, possibly breaking the hat/
hehe, yeah the shaker hood is badass, but expensive, only thing I don't like is that you can't run a super charger with it...

Message: Whats the shaker hood? You have a link that I could check out to see it? Also, Ive read that the FIPK gives very minimal results. But most of the people talking about it were 4.7 guys. So I dont know how it fares with the 5.9. Hows the increase in gas mileage with it? any noticeable dif in power. I know that intakes dont do a whole lot but if you can notice even a little thats good. I'm just trying to get the best bargain and most people on the 4.7 link were saying it was sorta a waste for the lack of numbers it puts out. 7-8 Hp gain and like 1 mpg. Just checking multiple sources..see what you all think. Thanx bro.

Message: Well dispite what people have said i decided to use my own instincts. I went with the 360AirIntakes, power shot intake for my RT. It comes with a heat sheild and air hat so it is better then some of the plain ones for our trucks..and K&N is jus too expensive for prolly the same damn results. So we'll see.

Message: I've been running the FIPK, and am totally impressed with it... I've heard good things about the 360air intakes... and air raid.... but still prefer the warranty that K&N offers....
If you get onto KRCperformance.com their online store has a shaker hood picture there....
it was first available from www.profinish-proglass.com but now is available from many sources... you can even find em on ebay...

Message: Well..I talked to the owner on the phone of 360Air.. Awesome guy and they provide a good warranty on it. They seem like a really good group of people who will do anything to help the customer out. So I am pretty confident that I made a good choice and the intake sounds a lot better then the rest and very similar to the K&N. Only real dif is teh major coorperation that K&N is. But 360Air does do a warranty..So im happy. Thanx for all your help tho man.
