Subject: Oil-Pump Problem!@# IP: Logged
Message: Alright, I'd noticed an odd sound from the truck the past day or two (sounded like a labor-knock or something I guess) when under light pedal (cruise), then putting a small load on the engine. Today I got home, popped the hood with the engine running (allow it to cool) and have oil being spurted onto the belt and fan, and being thrown on the left and right sides of the engine. After it cools, I'll double-check the hoses, but I think my pump is gone (hence the knocking sound). How much am I looking at to have it replaced?
Also, how hard is it to swap out an oil-pump? I am 1,600mi from an oil-change anyway, so I may as well change it. Do I have to pull the engine from the truck to swap this out? How much would the parts I need cost and what are they?? Never toyed with an oil-pump before because one never went out on me. Needless to say I am without transportation now and am in desperate need of a fix.

Message: OK, after the engine cooled, I went down and cranked the truck. No oil-leak/spray. I let it warm to running temp (hood up). Now I revved it as high as 2k RPMs, no leak/spray. I'm lost on this one. I'm going to watch the oil-pressure and such, and see what happens. If it happens again, I'm probably going to replace the pump.

Message: Well, thanks for all the help (extreme sarcasm). I just found my culprit. Seems no fluid gets thrown out until the engine hits 180deg, the temperature my thermostat opens at! That bearing-sound I heard was a bearing in the front of my water-pump. This should be a simple, but time-consuming fix. I'm just going to buy a high-flow pump and cool the engine a bit more.

Message: Common sense is an elusive thing. I would never associate an oil leak with a bad oil pump myself, for example..

Message: True, except for the fact that what appeared to be oil was leaking FROM THE PUMP. And it turned out I was right anyway, I just had the pumps mixed-up. My water-pump is gone. I am replacing it tomorrow though. I took off the fan-belt and could physically wiggle the fan and the shaft it's on in every direction, so that sound I heard WAS a bearing getting caught in something. Now I just pray the f*cker is still inside the old pump, or I have to get it out of the system before driving to avoid damaging the new pump...

Message: STFU, kiddie. When anti-freeze gets mixed with dust and other things it turned a dark-brown or black color, and guess what color oil is? Chances are it ain't purple!
Stop posting on dead threads trying to sound all cool and professional, because you're only exposing how childish you are. You're lucky your dad let's you touch his Dak, if he does, so stop trying to sound like you're the be-all, end-all of knowledge concerning mechanics. Nobody on this board is.
