Message: 12 cents a gallon...a fill up for under 2 bucks. Wouldnt that be nice.
As much as I love my V8 dak, i sure miss the gas mileage of my 4 cyl dak, I bought a v8 knowing the gas mileage would suck so im not gonna complain. Gas is anywhere from 1.85-2 bucks, depending on the brand, in my part of louisiana right now.

this is quoted from timberlineram over at dodgetalk.com
"dont like high gas prices, thank an environmentalist. The influx of crude into the us hasnt really gone down. The problem is that we have limited refineries to handle the oil we get. The spotted owl (which tastes like chicken) gets more deference than the possibility of building new refineries. If you really want to see them fly sky high. get rid of the ones in houston and we're toast. This is the same problem with elec prices running off of the natural gas power plants..... no one wants nuclear, heaven forbid we run on oil or coal, and solar is useless.
The big reasons demand is up is that China is drawing in more crude that ever, and the only ones really getting rich are the Arabs and the US Government with the taxes on the fuel."

Message: Actually, the price of gas has turned my Dak into a weekend only vehicle (camping, biking, etc.). My wife & I commute into work in her 'high mpg' Taurus. It's sad to think that 28 mpg is considered 'high'. I used to have a Mazda that would get 40+ on the highway. You could go forever on a tank.

Message: As long as those who can afford it continue to buy and drive 6000 pound / 12mpg SUVs to pick up groceries, then you're going to be living with high gas prices. Crude oil is a global commodity, and good ol' supply-and-demand is still the primary determinant for prices. As far as blaming the U.S. government, they deserve the rap for alot of things, but I think that's giving them too much credit. Politicians always claim they can control market forces so that they can make campaign promises which in reality they couldn't keep even if they wanted to.

Message: I'm a big optimist. While I pretty sure gas prices aren't going down anytime soon, by the end of the summer we'll be so used to having gas be so high, that it won't be as bad. Just think, a few months ago we were all bitching about how regular was $1.60ish (here in NE PA). I'm not too worried about it all. Just sucks b/c I don't have the money to mod up my baby now. When you're in college with a part time job making around $700 a month, with a $200 a month truck payment, $130 for insurance, then paying a gas bill of about $180 a month, it doesn't leave you with much money to do anything else. I'm just thankful that classes are over for the summer so I don't have to go anywhere besides the 2 miles to work.

Message: I've been down this MPG/gas price increase road before. At the risk of showing my age, gas was 27 cents/gal in 1973 when the Arabs first got greedy. It was 50 cents in 1978, and $1.09 in 1979 when they got greedy again. If you noticed, we cruised merrily along for some 20 years here without getting slammed, but today's hit doesn't even compare to the 100% hits of the 70's. If it was, we would be at $3.20/ gallon right now. However, the prices may get there eventually. The lesson here is, drive what you like, if it gets reasonable mpg. There is a point where you can shrink your mode of transportation down to obtain mpg, and end up being miserable. I traded my modded '77 Dodge van w/318 that got 13mpg for a wimpy '85 Dodge mini van 2.2 5-spd that got 22mpg. I just about hated that vehicle from the day I bought it for the lack of power. I test drove a '92 5.2 Dak (17.5 mpg), and never looked back. Knock on wood, but I don't intend to EVER buy even a 6-cyl truck again. My '01 4.7 RC 5-spd 3:92 gets 18-19 mpg and still hauls major ass, so I'm where I want to be, hell or high gas prices...

Still love the 99 318cid DAK, but will probably buy a Siphoning Hose (South Philly Credit Card). Neighbors have a full side truck with big Tanks.

Message: Washington DC is at $2.05 for regular. Put your tailgate down and you may experience an extra 2.7 miles per gallon like I do. Of couse this is on long trips. Around town it does not help. I wish my GTO had a tailgate or a lighter foot to save on mileage.
