Subject: Loud whistling noise on cold start
IP: Logged

Message:
My '99 5.2 liter just recently developed a loud whistling noise when you start it up in the morning. Every time you hit the gas it gets louder. It sounds like air rushing out from somewhere, but nobody can seem to isolate where its coming from. Almost sounds like its coming from inside the engine block. The noise goes away after the engine gets ran for about 15 minutes. Doesn't seem to be losing any performance. Anybody been through this before, or have any ideas?

also make sure that rubber ring between ur airhat and tb is good and placed evenly i accidently miss clamped mine and it made a high pitched whistle sound like i was supercharged

I also had the same noise, almost like a paper flapping sound??. Turned out to be a leaking gasket in the exhaust manifold (left/drivers side). The reason that noise goes away after vehicle has been running is the gasket heats up and expands. I went in for regular service maintenance at a quick lube place for oil change/tune-up at 26,000mi and they made me aware of problem when i asked about the noise.
