Subject: 5.2 black magic fan milage went up IP: Logged
Message: The milage on my 99 5.2 5 speed Dak went up by 2.1 MPG after installing an electric fan this past weekend. I have dual cat-bak flowmaster,K&N, and relocated IAT. I have been getting 15 MPG for the past two years, the truck has 85,000 miles on it, I drive 65 on the highway but I get on it in the city. I was careful to payt attention to my driving last week to make certain I got a good baseline on my milage. Since Saturday, I have driven 190 miles and have gotten 17.1 MPG. I have a set of FMS 19# injectors coming in this week and I am wrapping my fuel rails with this really cool insulating heat tape at the same time, I will have to see how that effects my MPG.

Message: That is because the stock fan is no longer causing drag on the motor.

Message: Finally ran full tank of gas through my truck, mostly highway and I got an amazing 18.3 MPG. I am so surprised I have never gotten better than 15's, man than fan was an unbelievable drag on that motor.

Message: Wow, I have the stock clutch-fan on the engine and average ~19mpg city with my '95 5.2L at just over 108k. Can't wait to remove the fan and install my electric ones. If I can get above 20mpg city with a 5.2L, I'll feel I'm doing good!

Message: 94 Dakota-
Check out summit.com for fans and prices. Ive got a 16" Permacool 2950cfm e-fan and use it with my stock shroud and 180 t-stat. The stock fan weighs 15lbs or so. The Permacool moves serious air(2950cfm) and cost a whopping $90 after shipping and install. I wired mine to a rocker switch under my headlight knob and just turn it on when Im sitting or driving under 25mph. Most people would probably not want to have to remember to switch it on but after a while you get used to it...
