Thanks Todd. We are trying to prove to sephererother or whatever the hell his name is that more rpm does not always mean more fuel consumed! You know by towing your boat, I know by towing jet ski's everyone else knows, but for some reason he just doesn't get it. I said lug, that means dog it down in too high of a gear like I said, 5th through town.

Pope, that is what I said. It's the gearing man! 3:55 is better than the higher gearing on mileage unless you're really ragging on it a lot. In that case, the higher gearing is better because it'll give you more torque to the wheels, which means you start out faster. However, you lose some top-end speed.

pope,
If you read the posts from Sephiroth, you will understand the serious problem that he has. He’s either real young or a real low IQ dumb a$$. He lives in a dream world of his own. Maybe he’s female or has female hormones running through his body due to his “mood swings”. All you have to do is look at some of his other posts and you will understand. When I see any response from Sephiroth or lord_dakron@hotmail or yahoo.com, I don’t pay any attention to the response because it’s inaccurate. I just hope the other Dakota owners from the Raleigh area are not branded by this guy / girl.

All I can say is that I have a 99 5.2 4x4 extcab (not the quad) with stock gears, trans, motor. My tires are Interco trXus M/T 31x10.50x15's. All I upgraded was to remove the muffler and cold air box system and put on a real old fashioned chrome air cleaner for more (although warmer)air. I use more gas getting on it off the line (when the light turns green!) than cruising at 80mph with the cruise set.

Thanks mechanic. I thought I was the only one who knew he was a total waste of space. Frank, I'm not really sure what your point was, this thread is about putting in lower gears, and how much the mileage would change. Everybody gets better mileage while cruising at highway speed than they do while accelerating. The 99 dak was not available in a Q/C. Are you saying that the mileage went down after installing the air cleaner, and exhaust, or just that your mileage is worse off the line?

Well, that shows that there are two kids on here who wish they had their own trucks. You guys are really amusing, pray, keep posting. Higher RPMs saving fuel is just so ludicrous it's hysterical! Pope you're hilarious.

Mechanic, I suggest you get your nose back into Pope's ass before you miss something. Comming in out of the blue and only trying to add to a VERY retarded post shows off your exceedingly low intelligence. So tell me, does his crap taste good?

Man, You are about the coolest guy I know! I hope to be as cool as you someday. My crap probably tastes about like your boyfriends, so there is no need to ask mechanic about it! Try doing what I said about driving extremely low rpm's for a tank full, and then average acceleration in the next tank full. You will be surprised at how damn stupid you are. I wish you could realize how stupid you are, so you would just leave everyone alone!

Higher rpms has nothing to do with saving fuel. The reason steeper gears can result in better fuel econ. is due to less load on the engine.

Less load = higher MAP signal which = less fuel
