Subject: Starting/idle problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 Dakota, with 71K on the motor , for the last 50k I have had the same problem. When it rains or is cold and frost on the windows, the engine idles rough til it is warm. Some times it will not hold an idle, will not shift gears ( trans fells like it is in neutral). I have a piece on the passenger side of my intake manifold with no hose hooked up to it (not the PCV) what is it for, should it be plugged?

If it's the 5.2, there is a hose with nothing plugged into it on one side of the motor. It will however have a plug to cap it off. If yours does not, then try capping it off. Your truck will run like hell for a few miles while the computer relearns the new settings. Give that a try only if you have the 5.2. Fot the others, I really have no idea.
