Subject: 92 5.2 dakota idle prob IP: Logged
Message: Okay..heres the scenerio...92 with just over 300,000km on her. New filters etc.
Starts and runs for a bit, then the idle starts to fluctuate about 200 rpm, she then just dies, no stumble, just as if you turned the key off.
If you keep the revs up you can drive it, if your idea of running at 140kph,is driving..cops have a different opinion.
Run for codes and we think, i was not the one pulling them,we have a 35, and either a 46 or a 43.
Has anybody got any ideas? WE are currently thinking IAC, how do you test this device?
This site got the other truck running great so we are back....Thanks for your assistance...MikeD

Message: I had the same problem, but it wasn't the idle sensor. The intake manifold gasket had a leak and the sensor was trying to compensate. The leak wasn't noticeable from the outside it was internal leak.

Message: Spray some carb cleaner into the throttle body, and swab inside as far as you can reach with a clean rag. Try a bottle or two of STP concentrated injector cleaner in the tank. I assume you have changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, and PCV valve. I had a '92 5.2 that needed the PCM replaced at 160,000 miles (62mi=100km for you). About once a week, the engine would "sleep" for about 2 seconds while driving, then "wake up". It would never show up on the dealer's engine scanner. I bought a new Mopar Performance computer; end of problem.
