Subject: 4.7 RPM jump @ 10MPH IP: Logged
Message: OK, got a 01 QC auto 4.7 while I am slowing down when my speedometer says 10MPH my RPM's jump a few hundred then come back down. You can hear and feel the RPM raise for that second or two. TB is clean, IAC is clean, can't find any vacuum leaks, reset PCM, newer TPS adjusted to .7 What could cause the RPM to jump when I am slowing down, it looks so funny, one needle goes down and one jumps........

Message: Whatever you find, let me know. Mine has a somewhat erratic RPM at lower speeds, esp with the clutch in, coming to a stop. TB is clean, but I have had TB codes come up before. All other symptoms sound like what you have, but you're right, both needles should drop at the same time.

Message: I think its normal. It is the trans downshifting to the lower gear. Older trannys (02 and down) will down shift as you are slowing down so as to be in the right gear when you need to accelerate again. Newer tannys (02 and up) dont down shift untill acceleration is called upon from the motor. A bit less performance, but more comfortable for people.

Message: For your 5spd to be doing it is kinda weird. It sounds like what he's describing is downshifting, or maybe the TC unlocking. But, a 5spd... pshh, I dunno..

Message: I have a 2.9 Ford that did that. Changed the fuel filter. The fuel fuliter was slightly clogged and the motor was racing a bit when I pushed in the clutch. mechanic said it was because the motor was sucking harder for gas and when you push the clutch in it takes a second for the flow to adjust. So maybe that might help, who knows.

Message: I have a '02 4.7, auto. My RPMs jump when I make a gradual stop, it just jumps when it downshifts to first, then drops back to 2nd.

Message: Just got new Quad cab 4.7 . Found the steering to be a little odd. Around slow turns the steering wheel jumps and turns with the bumps. Its as if the tires are not tracking properly. Less than 200 miles on the truck. I havn't ownwed a new vehicle in 20 years. Is this the type of steering/ suspension on these newer vehicles. Sort of to make you feel the roadway?
