 Subject: WHAT'S MY R/T'S TOP SPEED?????

Okay, I really need help. As anyone with an r/t knows, the top speed is limited to 115mph. (not sure about 4.7 or 3.9 Daks) How do I fix this? I heard a performance computer module, such as Hypertech's, will only raise it to 118mph because that's what the factory installed tires are speed-rated at. Yet I've been on other sites where r/t owners talk adout their trucks being able to go 130, even 140+. What's the deal??

factory tires are rated at 130mph and factory speed limiter should be around 118mph which is as fast as my r/t will go. to upgrade the speed limiter either do a mopar pcm which will eliminate it or do a b&g m1 flash which is even more aggressive on timing but will bring the speed limiter to 135mph.

i have a 98 dodge dakota 3.9l magnum slt i put in a k&n cold air intake system and a 50 series flowmaster i race myfriends 4.3L extreme i beat him and no one believes me and know the s-10 guys r over here from th s-10forum talking sh*t about are dakotas is it that hard to believe that i out ran a extreme with my truck?

NO:) My friend has a completely stock rc 2wd auto 3.9 Dak, and it will outrun my friends 4.3 cc 2wd S-10. The Extreme isn't really faster than a regular S-10. It's just an appearange package. I think it might also have a few suspension extras. Bottom line - THEY STILL SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He said the S-10 did. SLT and R/T are packages. R/T is the speed package, packing a 5.9 V8. But Justin, no matter what, the s-10 guys are always going to say they are faster as you will be as well, even when there is proof showing an R/T smoking an s-10. It's one of those never-ending battles. Don't let it get to you so much. Besides, Dodge has the fastest production truck ever made. What does Chevy got :)

Yeah, I can't wait to catch one of those Super Slow Trucks at a stoplight:) I'll murder it, but at least it'll be a better race than with an S-10! Iv'e never beat an S-10 by less than 6 cars in my r/t.

My top speed is 125. Its not limited, just that the wind resistance on this old '93 is incredible at that speed. I havent tried with the tailgate down though. I'm sure that would get me to 130. My tires are only rated at 107 so I wont be pushing it.

Comparing an S10 to a V8 Dak is the biggest waste of time I've ever heard of, especially an R/T. S10's are for commuting and moving small bedloads around. Dakotas are more of a work horse and have plenty of acceleration to make them fun. I've driven a 5 speed RC S10 with a 4.3L, ungodly slow. I figured it would at least have some punch down low, but it didn't, must have needed larger gears. I would never waste my time racing an S10 in my 4.7L 5spd, I'll let my friend in a 3.0L Ranger handle that. I dyno more at the wheels than S10's make supercharged. And people, please no more 4.7L vs R/T, they are both Dodges and Dakotas, let it go. Let's put the effort towards blowing Rustangs off the road.

125mph is all my 93 CC would do, but it wasn't because of wind resistance. With the performance PCM the shut down RPM was raised to 5500. With the OD turned off it would hit 125mph at 5500rpm. With the OD turned on it still shut down at 117mph (factory speed limiter).
Have they changed the programming on the performance PCM since 1994? How did you get rid of the 117 speed limiter?

My 93 RC 3.9 5-speed top speed was 115 stock.
My 00 CC R/T S/C top speed (according to the laptop) 136 with lots of gear and power to go. My tires were about worn out so I didn't push it any harder.
2000 CC R/T 52mm TB, M1, 2.02 R/T heads (polished chambers), headers 3.5" exhaust, flowmaster 40 single, MP PCM, removed engine driven fan(It's back on now Damnit), MSD ign-BTM, Taylor "409" plug wires with boots, Keith Black pistons, 5140 rods, ARP head studs, Hotchkis suspension 2/3 drop, Transgo shift kit, lot's of little stuff! More to come!

i used a superchip micro tuner to take off my top speed limiter.. and it gets up to 130+, it doesnt ask you your tires speed rating.. like hypertech may (by the way hypertech is way way way over rated.. superchip made much more of a difference for me.)

i have a 98 dakota 3.9l dakota and a chevy guy told me that you cant do any burn outs or drive it to hard because the dakotas will blow there transmissions easly is that true or is he just running his mouth because he has an s-10 and is it safe for me to do burn outs with my truck

is your truck an r/t...?...if so is it mostly stock with the exception of the superchips micro tuner programming....i have a virtually stock r/t....only the k&n filter and iat adjuster and wonder how the superchips would do...
