Message: I was looking at Mopar's site and found a 528 Hemi that puts out 610 horses and 650 lbs-ft torque. Would this be too much for a Dakota? or would it be one hell of a fun time?

Message: Yes it would fit. Sport Truck had an article in July of 2000. Hot Rod Magazine was the company that put the 528 hemi into a 2000 Quad Cab. They put a 727 Torqueflite manual trans to back this up. The headers and exhaust had to be handmade. They claimed it made 640 hp. Also a custom crossmember, and oil pan had to be made to fit. Obviously, this was a lot of work and skill but it looks and sounds great. Hope this helps.

Message: I hope they back halved it while they were at it, otherwise there is no way that it would hook up and use most of that power.

Message: If your looking to put 1100 hp in a dakota I would suggest a tube chassis with a cage, a strut or mustang II front suspension and a 4-link with coil-overs and a fab9 rear. Probably should look into a Lenco if you like shifting or a JW powerglide if your looking to run brackets.Sounds like a killer project.

remember "the chain is only as strong as its weakest link", and any GM part would be the weakest link.

Message: Actually I was looking to use the Lenco transmission, possibly a underdrive adapter for racing, and use the Hemi with a Blower. I expect to start work in spring. Also thinking of puting a hemi in the wifes Durango. I will of course have to use a automatic transmission.

If something is too good to be true, it probably is. You must be the .00000001 % that actually got lucky

Message: Yeah I would suggest a JW 'glide it has no GM parts in it.Seen a few 727's suffer from sprag explosions in apps. with over 800 hp and the damage is not pretty, Last car had a hole about 3 ft. in dia. in the floor, most of the dash and windshield were gone and the roof was severely dented with a few silver-dollar sized holes. One of the local racers runs a 1,800hp pro-5.0 'stang with the 'glide and has very few problems with it.Also seen a few behind very stout 440's and Hemi's. A 727 would be fine behind one the crate Hemi's , but if your going to double the hp I would seriously think about using an aftermarket billet-cased 'glide.

Message: 528 is too much. Anyone know if the new 354 Hemi will ever be able to retrofit in a '99 Dakota R/T? I've added a ramair hood, computer, headers, dual exhausts, but my 360 R/T just doesn't seem quick enough. (Or will Dodge put the new Hemi in a future Dakota?) Then, I'd have to buy another truck. It'd be nice to just buy a motor, though, instead of another vehicle.
