Message: The service manager gave me a pitch about graphite dust they are going to use in their oil changes. Yes, you got, graphite, they aren't doing any oil changes on my dakota. Jeff is such a cheesedick, service manager. Anybody hear of this one??
he gave me a brochure but I tossed it. He says hell with synthetic, use the graphite additive. I say fck him, he and that company are full of sh-it.
This is a five star dealership, are they owned by Chrysler???

Message: Dude that sounds awfully funny. I'm using AMSOIL, but I'd recomend any synthetic over graphite. I'd personally think the graphite would eventually cause more problems. I mean wouldn't that stuff clog your filter?!

Message: I have the brochure the service department manager gave me. I didn't throw it away. It is called Krex Graphite Engine Lubricant.
LMAO the brochure also gives you roadside assistance for as long as you use this crap.
This sh-it is snakeoil and the service department has fallen for a slimy salesman selling this crap to them at Wester Dodge in Seaside California, a 5 star dealership. Go figger, they still haven't detailed the truck, 3 weeks and it's already been there twice, and the power steering is howling. Does everybodies howl on the 4.7?? I bought an 04.
Nice little truck though came fast right out of the box.

Message: lol, thanks. Actually my power steering howls so loud it sounds like a gear drive.
Remove the timing chain and use gears, that whining sound, from the gear drive is the sound of the power steering.

A Dealer Service Manager recommending Graphite?
Graphite - or any solid in the engine is BAD News!
These "particles" --- graphite --- are marketed in some questionable products and the graphite is supposed to be pushed/forced into the scratches in the cylinder walls from the heat and pressure of combustion - to improve engine performance, etc. You can feel the material between your fingers. I do not like the idea of putting solids of any kind into the engine. It just seems like a bad idea. If the filter is doing it's job it will be loaded with this material rather quickly.
I am troubled by Graphite and PTFE being used as components of the additives packages. I have discussed the adverse long term effects of PTFE and Graphite on earlier posts. PTFE is the additive used in Slick 50 and other "snake oil" additives.
For more information ... I have made many posts here at DodgeDakotas.com regarding questionable products and additive packages (search under Slick 50, zMax, MMO, Marvel Mystery Oil).

Though this is not a thread about oil or amsoil,
somebody brought up API so I wanted to add this.
I WAS WRONG
I LEARNED THE TRUTH ABOUT API AND AMSOIL
All vehicle manufacturers in the U.S. have agreed that a warranty cannot be denied because a customer was using any particular brand of oil that meets specifications, unless an engine failure was directly attributable to the fluid. If it is not a fluid related failure, they cannot void the warranty. The law supports this position.
Plus, the dealer/manufacturer has no way of telling what fluid you are using. How do I know? I am a former aircraft technician. I too was sceptical in the beginning. But now I am a believer.
Amsoil meets and exceeds API specs.
USE AMSOIL WITH CONFIDENCE!!!!!!!!!

....................................
they have been misleading people for years!
From http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm:
"API Certification, Phosphorus & ZDDP
Never use a non-API certified synthetic oil (there are many of these on the market). The problem with the non-API certified synthetics is that they contain too much phosphorus (in the form of the additive ZDDP (Zinc Dialkyl Dithiophosphates)). The API has limited the amount of phosphorus because phosphorus shortens the life of the catalytic converter. These oils are fine for snowmobiles, motorcycles, and older cars that don't have a catalytic converter,
and the extra ZDDP does provide additional wear protection. Unfortunately, the marketers of
some the non-certified oils do not explicitly
and honestly state the reason for the lack of API certification.
You can check the status of API certification on the API web site.
Be certain to go not just by the manufacturer name but by the actual product as well. This is because a manufacturer will sometimes have both certified and
non-certified products. Suffice it to say that Mobil 1,
Royal Purple, Castrol, & Havoline all make synthetic oils that are API certified and
that can be purchased at auto parts stores and other retail outlets. Amsoil has one product line, XL-7500 that is API certified, but it's other lines contain too much ZDDP to be certified
and should not be used in vehicles with
catalytic converters. "
...........................................
do some reading people
open your owners manual
"we are unaware of any automobile manufacturer in the United States that currently recognizes using any synthetic oil beyond the recommended oil change intervals outlined in their owner's manual."

Question:
Response to Amsoil Competitive Claims
What is your position/response to the 4 ball wear test Amsoil states on their website? Do you agree with the test results or are there other test results you could point me to. Thanks
-- Todd Blake, Andover, MN
Answer:
The 4-ball wear test is a test designed to evaluate the performance of a gear oil. The 4-ball wear test is not included as a part of any industry-wide recognized engine oil specifications (e.g. ILSAC GF-4, API SM, or ACEA specifications). ExxonMobil does not regard this test as a useful indicator of engine"
