Message: john-r is correct, Nate Dawg. I had a 98 just like
yours, 4x4 and same engine and gears. I installed
a class five hitch, tranny cooler, bought a
trailor light kit from a RV dealer plus the
electric brake controllor and pulled my 26 footer
with no problems at all... Just remember, disable
the over drive while pulling a big load.

Message: im pretty sure the 98 takes programmers.. dont go with mopar parts.. even though thats what the dealer wants.. i put a superchip on mine and it worked really well.. you can get a good deal on one of those dont miss the chance.... otherwise switch out your gears with 410s and youll be quicker

Message: Nate Dawg and Bammy,
I have a SuperChip programmer for my '00 5.9 QC and like it. (Improved fuel economy by 4% over a 6,000 mile [with] vs 16,000 mile [without] comparison). It is a VIN specific tool (handheld programmer) and will a require 'reset' by the manufacturer before it can be used for other than diagnostic purposes on another rig.
I think the performance is worth the extra high octain cost,...
