Message: Sounds like the u-joints on the drive-shaft. My '92 started like that and I thought the same thing. In the end I was lucky my shaft didn't fall off while I was going down the road. Check to be sure your u-joints are lubed well.

Message: Sometimes the pulleys arn't perfectly aligned and this causes the belt to squeal. Spray some belt dressing on the belt while it's running. If it goes away then you know you have an issue with your belts/pullies. The belt dressing won't eliminate the noise but for just a couple of days.

Message: The cherping noise I had has was from the fan clutch going bad. After reading several post about the fan I decided to remove the fan and let the electric fan do the cooling. Result: no cherping, no fan roar when engine is cold, and a ever so slight improvement in gas milage.
