The 04 has different ball joints? They are yellow rubber boots and this truck seems much tighter than my old 2002 Dak.
I think they have done some mods to the suspension.
I am also convinced you get a better truck when you purchase more options. I had an SXT, those are stripped. I just bought an 04 sport plus and this truck seems much tighter and a little more care put to it..

I also own an 04, a Quad 4x4 4.7
According to the NHTSA the joints were redesigned in 03. But I havent been able to find much info as to the specifics of how they were changed and how that affects durability. I also believe the investigation doesn't extend to the 04s, it stops with the 02s.
So far, the few suspension problems Ive heard with 04s on here pertained to issues that had symptoms similar to a ball joint problems but which turned out to be something less serious, a bushing or some other part that had to be greased or lubed. I suspect we'll know for sure around the end of 2005, when the earliest 04 Daks should have more than 25 thousand miles on the clock and they start getting close the mileage when earlier trucks started wearing out their joints.
