Message: Well its that time where I need to change the plugs and wires on my 98 5.2. Can a few people let me know whats the best combo to go with? I was going to get some MSD wires. I saw that truckperformance had them for around 90. And some say that the autolite plugs are the best ones? Is there anything else I should do at the same time i change the plugs and wires?
Let me know, thanx!

Message: I like Jacobs. They were the first to offer spiral core wires. They are a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for. I've never had a set of Jacobs wires fail. I've been running them since 1989. They were the only wires I could get to hold up to the punishment my 451 Big Block put out. I had headers with no heat sheild. All the other brands (some were more expensive than Jacobs) would not hold up. The boots would seperate from the wire or the metal connector inside the boot would pull off. Some of the cheaper brands would simply melt.
Now everybody brand name has spiral core wires as an upgrade to the standard wire. AutoZone has a set for around $40.00 that performs almost as good as Jacobs.

Message: WipLash,
Where did you get yours? I don't think I've even heard of that company for wires. Have you ever tried a pair of the MSD wires? Thanx for the post!!

Message: I bought mine from a Speed Shop in Little Rock, AR. JC Whitney started selling them a few years ago. I would check them out.
Everybody makes a pretty decent set of wires these days. Back in the 80's it was hard to find a set of wires that would last you 2 years. Not Mallory or Accel were worth a damn back then. Usually the first time you change the plugs, 2 or 3 of the boots would come apart or the terminal would pull out. Since Jacobs starting making QUALITY wires for all makes the competition has had to step up their quality. Eveyone has copied Jacobs design and are selling their wires cheaper than Jacobs. I refuse to use the competition's cheaper versions of the Jacobs. I try to support quality and enginuity since I am an Engineer.

Message: I recommend the Taylor 8mm Spiro pro wires. High temp. resistance and low wire resistance. Used them on every vehicle I've owned until now. I have a 2000 Dakota with the 4.7L. No plug wires to replace.

Message: I changed out my plugs a few days ago to Autolite 3923's. While pulling the wires from the plugs with the little room they give you to pull the wires, I ended up ripping the boot from the wire and had to get new wires. I bought Bosch ultra premiums 7 milimeter at Auto Zone. Are these wires any good? While I was at it I changed the cap and rotor also.
One thing that I found pulling the old plugs out which were NGK's split V (i think) was that they were almost 1/2 half inch longer that the 3923's. I also noted that the the 3923's are about 1/8th of inch shorter that the recommend plug from Autolite. I went with the 3923's per a recomendation from another Dodge Dakota owner.
Also the cap is a pain to get too!!
