Subject: 5.2L-5.9L upgrade

my question is this,i have recently swapped out my 5.2L for a 5.9L in a 97 dakota. the problem i have is the truck is running too lean due to the programming of the stock 5.2L computer.if they made a 97 with a 5.9L then i would be able too use that computer, however it was'nt made for a dak in that year.and for those whom think that using a pcm out of an R/T or something newer with a 5.9L in it, forget it, would'nt work due to the fact of the wiring and 4 O2's instead of 2 on my 97,computer would go in default. So back to my point, does anyone out there know where to get a pcm for this or even a programmable performance one?

in the place of the two extra 02 sensors put in the appropriate resisters. This will trick the computer into thinking that everything is fine, and all is well in 02 sensor land.

Just my .02

thanks for the tip joe, however the newer computers also communicate info from the bcm, which the 97 also does'nt have, again default!! ideal fix is an aftermarket programable pcm, problem is i have no idea where to find one. already called hypertech and edelbrock,no luck.

How about larger injectors. If it's running lean across the range, this should do it. But what size?

i have the 5.9L injectors in now and they are larger than the 5.2L,again i believe that the pulse width from the pcm isn't long enough. i am starting to think that maybe a adjustable fuel pressure regulator might be worth looking into. hypertech offers a pcm programmer, but that will program the pcm thinking i have a 5.2L since that is the pcm i have to use.i am still confused about the fact that the map sensor is seeing more vacuum(bigger engine)and still isn't compensating for it.

regarding the ram pcm, it sounds like a good idea,i'll have to look into the wiring diagrams tomorrow at work.also i'll be able to find out if they offered a 5.9L in a 97,I'm pretty sure it was an option.might be onto to something with that.i'll post what i find later tomorrow night.i can't wait to get this truck on the track.did i mention it's a short bed standard cab with a manual tranny.this ought to be a blast to drive!!!
