Message: I have a 97 5.7L Dakota Club Cab. I've had it for about six months. When I leave for work in the morning, i put the key in and turn the motor over, the moter turns over, but it wont start. I turn the key again, and it will do one of two things. It will start just fine, or it wont start and I turn the key back and then try it again. Sometimes it will start on the third try just fine, or it starts but it sounds like its flooded. I can turn it off and back on and it will start just fine. But if i drive to work (20 miles away) and turn it off and try and turn it back on 5 minutes later it wont start. I have put a couple cans of B-12 to clean the system, but has done nothing. I have talked to a mechanic at Dallas Dodge and he told me to check the sensor in the back of the throttle body, I took it out, cleaned it along with whole throttle body, and reset the sensor like he said. But it still has problems. He also said to have the battery load tested. But the battery is huge, and it can run my radio and my amp for my subs for at least 5 hours and have no problems turning over the motor. A friend of mine said that it might be the o-ring in the fuel pump. But I havent checked. Has any one else had this problem, or any one have an idea?

Message: It really sounds like your fuel pressure is bleeding off because the check valve in the fuel pump is sticking open. You could attach a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and start the engine. You should see about 40 psi with the engine running. Turn off the engine and the pressure should hold. Normally, after 30 minutes the pressure will drop slightly. Eventually the pressure will drop to 0 because the fuel will not longer be pressurized but, if you turn the ignition on, the pressure should jump up immediately to near full pressure. If all the fuel drained out because of a faulty check valve the fuel pressure won't come back unless you cycle the ignition on & off a few times or crank the engine over for several seconds. You can get a fuel pressure gauge at AutoZone or Checker for about $35. AutoZone may even let you borrow one for free through their DITY program. If you don't have a gauge and don't want to buy one, you can also start the engine, turn it off and immediately clamp the fuel line near the fuel tank. Wait a couple of hours, unclamp it and try to start the engine. If the engine starts right up then you've got a faulty check valve in your fuel pump. If it won't start until you've had to crank it for several seconds then, you have a drain down problem forward of the fuel tank. In most cases this is one or more faulty injectors that are letting fuel leak past the nozzle into the intake port. Hope this helps, Good luck!

Message: We have a 1992 Dodge Dakota, V8, my husband drove through some washouts in the road and now the truck won't start. It turns over but there is no fire. We have replaced the computer, distributor cap and coil in the distributor. What could be the problem???
